has anyone figured out how to turn off the electronic nanny yet?

Its an incredibly stupid process where you tap the brake pedals multiple times in a certain sequence. Hardly "defeatable VCS" in my book. Still a very good car - though a 6 speed manual and defeatable VCS would go a significant way in making it a great car.

If the sequence of brake taps disables VDIM, how does that not quality as "defeatable VCS"? The lack of a 6-speed manual is sad, yes, but in a market where less than 5% of all buyers want a manual, it's just doesn't make any sense to offer one. Toyota is in the business of selling cars to make a profit, not satisfy the desires of a very vocal but ultimately small minority of potential buyers.

it's because they HATE the current 3 series

Read the article...
yeah and?

"No longer do you have to opt out of BMW 3-Series ownership armed with a caveat"

"...BMW might have the edge in 10/10ths excitement..."

"It's won a Top Gear award because, after years of trying, someone's made a car that conquers the Three..."

Hardly hated it, did they?

B/c 95% of owners will never know it exists and a 20 second procedure before driving your car is more of a hack in my book.

It is true that 95% of 3-series sedan owners opt for the automatic, but BMW has earned their kudos for consistently offering a manual - the difference between a business decision and a sporting decision. (though I do admit BMW likely continues to provide a manual mostly for their image than true racing DNA)

Regardless, the 330i is a significantly different drive in an auto vs the manual - and IMO the IS350 would be a much more fulfuilling drive for the sporting driver in a 6-speed manual.
