Misinformation or the truth?

I believe this, as it allows them to pick and choose who to use based on the skill set needed at that time as well as availability. And not disclosing the identity, it lets them be "expendable" in that if the driver isn't known, they can be replaced with one without issue to the viewers.

Some say that his sweat can fuel a Ferrari Enzo, and that his hair is styled like Princess Leia's! All we know is...he's called The Stig!

the line changed throughout the years but for the white stig on top gear test track in the last few season it's been very consistent, he always get on the grass at the last corner.

Some say his droppings have been found as far north as York. And that he has a full-size tattoo of his face - on his face. All we know is he's called the Stig

Thats disappointing. A single test driver keeps the lap time comparison more consistent.

Well there may be just one for lap times. And another for those cross country races they do.

I can trace it back farther than that. According to Jeremy Stig was a name bestowed upon new students at his prep school. Given his age he started in that prep school in 1973 which meshes perfectly with the fact that Monty Python's Flying Circus was on the air between 1969 and 1973. Monty Python used the name Stig for at least twice, once in The Piranha Brothers where a character was named Stig O'Tracy and again in the Book Shop sketch where one of the books was titled "The Amazing Adventures of Captain Gladys Stoutpamphlet and her Intrepid Spaniel Stig Amongst the Giant Pygmies of Beckles"...volume eight.

With that timing it seems like the boys at Jeremy's prep school were Flying Circus fans, they stole the name from Python and Jeremy carried it forward onto Top Gear.

Some say he's Rossman, and that he uses Subway coupons every outing, but all we know is....he's called The Stig.
