Top Gear USA Tonight!

I had no idea it was on tonight. It looks like the History Channel has invested a little 'Top Gear premiere' logo in the corner and that's about it. I haven't seen one commercial for it.

Yeah they have been playing the commercials a lot on all those channels, been seeing it for the last two months. Will check it out, but it's going to have to wait until after Walking Dead. Go figure, the two weekly shows I'll actually watch and they're on the same day at the same time. Oh well, less commercials for me. 🙂

Also, heard from someone else that went to the recordings out in Cali and they said it has potential to be good, but suppose we'll have to see how they edit it.

I will be watching even though I don't have a lot of hope for it. They have been pasting adds in car magazines and such on a regular basis. I don't watch enough TV to know if they have been promoting it on TV.

Of the hundreds of millions of Americans that can watch this, a few millions knew about it. Of those few millions, a few hundred thousands cared about it. Of those few hundred thousands, a few thousands actually have History Channels to watch it.

Great planning I must say.

I mean, Speed Channel or ESPN or even Fox Sports or something would make too much sense. How about OTA to generate interests first? Nah, let's stick it on a channel that's KNOWN for its association with automobile shenanigans.

Well, lets see. NBC had the show first and decided to scrap it. Also, most places History channel is included in the basic cable package. Most places I've been to/lived Speed was not included until just recently.

So the original Top Gear LOL's at American cars, what will the the yanks LOL at?....j/k

Meh I don't know. The chemistry between the British crew is very good and I don't know how good the American crew will be. I don't think they'll be able to badmouth cars like the Brits were able to do so freely. I wonder if they're going to do their version of "A Star in a Reasonably Priced Car".

I think the chemistry in BBC version is half the reason I watch it.....Hope they get a big enough range, i mean the Brit version does ALL the European, British, Japanese and Ozzie cars......Will the US version follow suit, could be a bit bland if it doesnt!

Yes they are. I've heard celebrities like Tony Hawk, Tim Allen, etc. are coming on the show.

3 minutes in....and i am disappoint.

edit: they are directly quoting the real top gear on the viper when he said soemthing to the effect of "you don't tame the viper, you survive."

and the waterlogged cars? oh my lord I do not want.

It's alright so far and i assume they're going to be copying quite a few of Top Gear's stunts - fine by me.

They definitely don't have the camerawork or post production stuff goin on though.

I don't think its fair that they're copying stuff exactly word for word on the car reviews.....It completely ruins it. Not to mention their stunts....I'd rather just watch reruns of bbc top gear
