watching drag racing on ESPN2 while waiting for my now rained-delayed baseball game, dude lost his motor or something and still managed a 6 second run!

"Lost his motor or something" as in the motor fell out our it stopped giving power to the wheels? The motor falling out would be much more dramatic... Especially if the car flew apart and just the guy flew across the finish line.

lost his motor meaning something in the driveline broke and tons of smoke came out of the car... i think they said he lost his blower belt. the car, compared to the other, looked like it just stopped dead on the track

You should see a top fuel race in real life- it's very impressive. The sound and concussion from those cylinders firing is unreal. You can feel the concussion in your chest from the stands, it's awesome.

When I went, a dragster blew his engine at launch, and still ran an 11 something at around 40 mph. He probably launched to more than 100 mph in the second or so that his engine worked, and after it blew he coasted down the rest of the track. The trap speed was so low compared to a normal car running 11's since a normal car accelerates all the way down the track, while this guy accelerated for the first 50 feet or so and coasted down the rest of the track.

There's nothing better then flying 300+mph for couple of seconds. 🙂

Makes you go WEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

well i'm gonna be in houston for the next 3 years minutes away from the fastest track in the country so hell yeah i'm gonna go to some nationals there

I've been a few times and its absolutely unreal. TV does it no justice. When the cars launched and went roaring by, the sound was so loud that it literally made my eyeballs vibrate 😀 They got really fuzzy as they went by.

They go like 0-100 in ~.9 secs.

People reading this will probably think it's a joke, but I noticed the same thing. My vision would blur when they went by because the shockwaves from the exhaust vibrate you. It's like sticking your head right in front of a giant subwoofer and turning up the volume.
