Whilte Pabster and JD50 flail around trying to pin this Republican scandal (if you recall, the Republicans control every aspect of the U.S. gov.), Some intersting things are developing. The shredders must be going furiously in Republican offices.

Federal investigators have asked the House of Representatives to keep computer records and papers from former Rep. Mark Foley's office, a senior Justice Department official said Wednesday.
House members are expected to cooperate with any necessary searches during the probe, according to federal law enforcement sources. (Watch the House speaker insist GOP leaders didn't initially see the messages to the page -- 2:25 Video)
The Washington watchdog group that first published the inappropriate e-mails between Foley and a Louisiana teenager said Wednesday that it told the FBI in July about Foley's communications. Those messages were deemed by a congressman who oversees the page program inappropriate but not sexually explicit.

The FBI contends that Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington did not provide enough information -- including the pages' identities and e-mail addresses -- to pursue the case. The FBI reviewed copies of the messages, government officials said, but did not have enough information to move forward with an investigation or seek subpoenas.

CREW Executive Director Melanie Sloan disputed that account, saying the FBI was given the teen's full e-mail address July 21. CREW received the e-mails that day from "a third party who had gotten them from a congressional staffer," she said. (Watch Sloan question why the inquiry took so long -- 1:44 Video)

Sloan said they were sent via e-mail to the FBI.

"The agent called me to follow up to say, 'So, these are e-mails from Mark Foley?' And I said, 'Yes.' And that was the end of our interaction," she said.

CREW has questioned whether the White House helped "cover up Rep. Foley's conduct and leave a potential sexual predator on the loose." The group also asked the Justice Department's inspector-general to investigate why the FBI didn't take further action.

Bush's Gestapo...er...FBI, apparently didn't find it necessary to investigate this previously, like, when they were told about it, in JULY!
Expected repsonse from JD50...:"but but, the Democrats!...." Pathetic.

Amazing, my saying that anyone that knew about this regardless of party affiliation deserves to get hammered for this equates to me trying to spin this and blame it on the democrats in your world. I have seen from your many postings that you have a blind hatred towards anyone that thinks differently than you, which is sad. I am not a Republican or Democrat, since I don't see much difference between the two parties (and yes I was a Republican a few years ago, but since the Republicans took full control and didn't do a damn thing they said that they were going to do turned me away from them) but I am conservative.

So your main excuse is that because the Democrats were not in control of Congress or that they couldn't start an investigation on their own that they shouldn't have to report a pedophile and possible child molestor? Ok, so if I know of some sicko that is molesting little kids I shouldn't say anything because I can't go start an investigation on my own?Thats the most retarded thing that I have ever heard (I used to be a cop so I have heard some pretty damn retarded things before). No one is minimizing what Foley did, he is a sicko, and so are the people that didn't out him. Keep in mind that I am not saying that Democrats knew about this (but I think that some of them had to of known) I am just very amused that you guys are trying to defend them before anything even comes out about it.

Report him to whom? For what? The FBI was already aware of the same e-mails that the Democrats allegedly saw, which were inappropriate but not overtly sexual. Asking a teenager for his picture doesn't make a person a "sicko" (and my guess is that I have infinitely more experience with child molestors than you, having worked extensively with them in the courts). What kind of reporting could they reasonably have done (particularly given the huge risk of being smacked for libel if the allegations proved to be false)?

IF it develops that Democrats knew that Foley committed crimes against children, shame on them, but at this point that's sheer conjecture, and even if true, their culpability is, by definition, less than the Speaker's. By way of analogy, let's say you become aware a peer at work is stealing office supplies, but do nothing. This isn't laudable behavior, but it's not the same as if you were the office manager and did nothing to discipline the employee or protect the company, after becoming aware of the larceny.

That is a poor analogy, mainly because petty theft and child molestation are a little different. I am talking about the safety and well being of the child. I don't care if you are the janitor or the speaker of the house, if you have reason to believe that some sicko is trying to get little teenage boys in bed then you need to come forward.

I'd like the links you've so far compiled proving the Democrats knew about this scumbag and participated in a coverup with the Republicans. That's what you're suggesting. So, you must have some links. Let's see them. If true I'll turn my anger on the Dems too. SHow me the proof.

Once again, it would help if you actually read my posts. I have not said once that the Dems knew about this. I said that it is my opinion that someone probably knew something. Oddly enough, when giving an opinion you don't need to provide a link.

edit - My involvement with this thread started when I responded to Todd33's post where he was already laying out excuses for Dems IF it was found out that they knew about this. The keyword there is IF.

On the conference call, a rank-and-file member asked about a report, circulating in the leadership since at least Friday, that Foley had showed up drunk at a page dorm. A House leader said that the alleged visit should be discussed privately because reporters might learn about the call, according to people who were on the call.

Huh. Well now, isn't THAT interesting.....Hmmmm.

I'm sure a Democrat is behind this!

I guess you are having a problem finding that quote of me blaming this on the Dems huh?

Edit - nevermind, I guess in your "angry liberal" way you admitted that you were wrong, well, its a start I guess.

Even though I can't stand Pelosi, I'm kinda hoping the Dems win something this go around so we get into some kinda gridlock and no bills get passed. Seems like thats the only way for the government to control its spending.

Well I guess if they said that they knew nothing about it it must be true right? "I did not have sex with that woman" sound familiar? The only reason I threw that in there is to see you Clinton apoligists throw a fit.

Anyways, I'm not sure if you were responding to me, but like I stated several times in my posts, I was not implying that the Democrats knew anything about it.

You throw the charge out there so I think there should be some burden of proof.
Is the Republican defense? we didn't know ... but if we did, the Democrats knew as well?

"If" being the operative word ... it hasn't happened. I know you want it so bad you can taste it, but it just ain't so. You got nothing and you're flailing around trying to deflect blame. Pathetic, just pathetic.

Oh, the part that says that I THINK that some of the Dems had to of known? That is my personal opinion, no where did I say that there are any facts to back it up. Honestly, the timing of it makes me wonder a little bit, and if all these Republicans knew about it for so long, wouldn't it seem like quite a feat to keep something like that such a secret with absolutely no one mentioning anything about it to a Dem?

Once again, this is my OPINION, as I have stated several times. Last time I checked I am allowed to have an opinion without providing links.

The way some people wonder if lower gas prices are the GOP way of "buying the vote" in November? Not everything is a conspiracy.
