Top 3 WORST games that you bought in 2012?

Out of curiosity I just had a peek at the d3 forums; sure enough people are still complaining about it. People are writing 10 page stories detailing why they don't like the game. I would have thought that a massive patch would have been created by now to fix everything. (that's what I've been hoping for so that I could go back and play it again some time in the future)

I really would like a good d2 successor.

After d3 I don't plan on paying full price for a game ever again. (unless under extraordinary circumstances) I've been mopping up older games on steam sales that I've missed over the years this passed year. Now that I've purchased an xbox360 controller I've been having a good deal of fun with some console ports as well.

Path of Exile. F2P but very good game, it is very much in the spirit of D2. It has an awesomely crazy skill tree as well that is just enormous. The F2P is only for cosmetic stuff, more backpacks (you start with 4 iirc), and more character slots. The entire actual game is free and isn't hindered in anyway. It really is good.

I laugh at people who bought this game. It was apparent literally MONTHS before release that Diablo 3 would use abysmal DRM. You could see the warning signs from a mile away. You had ample time to do your homework. I don't see how anyone could have thought this would be a worthy successor to Diablo 2, with Activision now playing a part in it. I have no sympathy for you whatsoever.

I'm not an anti-DRM guy either; I'm a pretty big Steamfag. But requiring always-online DRM that adds lag to a singleplayer game? lol.

I don't care about always on DRM for games I only intend to play multiplayer on anyway. I was mainly disappointed in it because everything was designed around encouraging maximum use of the auction house. Auction house itself was a good idea, but degrading parts of the design to push people into it was not.

DNF was god awful,i tried to finish it about 5 times and each time i quit in frustration.

Bulletstorm itself was fun,but god almighty if you buy the disc copy like i did,there was some voodoo going on with GFWL and honestly the fix for that was a fresh format then a install of the game prior to the stupid nvidia installation,the voodoo had me going into a update loop with GFWL then never ended nor would let me play the game.

Think my copy had some major files missing or something on it as my issues with the game and GFWL happened often enough.
 
Probably:
Max Payne 3 - the only saving grace was paying $9 for it
Diablo 3 - so much wasted potential. The DRM was an issue for me, but rather the RMAH, server issues, class balance
Halo 4 (can't think of another PC game) - was so boring that I couldn't even finish it to get the Amex rewards

I like GW2, but honestly I miss the "holy trinity". I haven't played in a few months, but my elementalist wasn't in the same league for dps as other classes wearing heavier armor.

played from start to finish (story mode) with a warrior and level 30 something with mesmer, played thousands of hours in gw1 and feel its still a better game than gw2. thanks for your kind comment though
 
Cant really think of any "bad" games that I bought, but the most disappointing would be Mass Effect 3, after investing so much in the first 2 games and expecting an epic conclusion. Only game that was great IMO was Skyrim. All the other games I bought were just sort of meh. I did not think Diablo 3 was that bad, but I did not like the always on line requirement, especially after Blizzard accused me of trying to "sell" my account and locking it. Borderlands 2 is a fun game, but I would not really call it "great", more like just mindless fun.

Hmm, is there a good single player component? My grandson got the game but hasnt played it much, partly because it doesnt run very well on his older gaming laptop.

I am not interested in an MMO, but I might give it a try if there is a good single player story. I have a new comp which should run it well.

The story part is fine and the global questing is pretty fun. My biggest gripes was the skill and combat systems. I was not a fan of using the same skills 1-5 (or was it 1-4) skills for all 80 levels once you found the best combination of weapons and the 4 or 5-8 were all skills with 30+ second cool downs. I MUCH more loved the guild wars 1 system.

Although, you will be forced to play with others because of the way the story quests are paced, you need to level off of other things like those global quests.

Since you have a copy its definitely worth a try, I hope you enjoy it more than I did.
 
I didn't buy many games, but the one I probably regret the most is Skyrim. Not because it was bad, but because I bought it on PS3, and I hated the controls.

Sorry, this is OT, but since everyone else is talking about D3, here is my take.

I actually really like the game, especially since they added MP and Ubers. What's funny is when I go back and play through D2 (ran through it just a couple of weeks ago) I actually don't like it as much as I do D3. It feels slow and sluggish compared to D3 and the gameplay isn't as enjoyable as I remember it. I think a lot of people just remember a time when D2 was really the only game of it's type, and everyone was fine with grinding away over and over slowly moving to lvl 99. Now everyone expects much more out of their games, and if within 1 year everyone isn't in godly gear they just abandon it and go to another game. I think we are just spoiled now with so many choices. Back then, playing a game for more than 2 years straight didn't seem as uncommon (at least for me with D2).

Granted, I got D3 for free, but it's still the game I played the most in 2012.

Oh i have plenty of Steam games on backlog..trust me...I rarely buy games at full price and seem to get burnt 50% of the time..
 
Crysis 2.

Did that even come out in 2012? Hell, I dunno, but I just recently picked it up on a Steam sale and it is an abomination unto the lord, so it wins "worst game that I bought in 2012".
 
AC: Revelations
Bought it cheap before AC3 came out and it's not very good.

Darksiders 2
Liked the first one enough, but this one is a pretty sloppy port. Looks terrible and runs like a dog despite the poor visuals.

Not any bad ones other than those come to mind.
 
Normally I did my research before buying games, but there are always some that slip though. maybe including games I bought in 2011...

1. Cities XL - Oldies like SimCity 3 and 4 are better
2. Cities in Motion - Freebie oldies like OpenTTD is way better
3. Microsoft Flight - Even with the DLCs (bought in a steam bundle sales) it is just not much of a simulator nor a fun game
 
The Walking Dead. Game is so riddled with bugs I couldnt even save my game ONCE without it being lost after. Biggest waste of money

Not to say that the campaign is amazing (and I haven't finished it yet), but it picks up and gets better than the first mission or two. I have no idea why they opened the campaign the way they did, but it is by far the worst part of the game that I've played yet.
