It would be interesting to see what she thought about Win8 if she used for a couple of months and got used to the interface. I kind of thought the same thing with Unity, but it grows on you. I have never used Win8 except to play with it on a 27" touch screen at Staples. I think once people get used to it its not going to be that big of deal.

Unless the interface is just completely broken, I think anyone can get used to a new product after a few months.

Windows 8's (and to a lesser extent, Unity's) problem is that it presents a new user interface paradigm, but doesn't guide the user through the new interface. As such, the user ends up not being able to do familiar tasks, and grows frustrated in a way that colors their entire perception of the product.

In contrast, the first time I powered on an Android smartphone, I was greeted by a tutorial widget that got me up and running quickly with the home screens, widgets, app launcher, and app market. Android may have its frustrations, but not knowing how to use it isn't one of them.

Tutorials/guides -- even if it's something as simple as brief video tour -- pays dividends in first impressions and overall satisfaction. It blows my mind that they are so often ignored.

The best operating system is Tos 1.4 which came as standard with my atari st 1040. If your talking about Windows then the best for me was Windows XP.

Lol this video is a summary of my mums other 12 videos all about 20 minutes each. But to spark your interest...

Windows 8 made it to one of the lists. MS-DOS also make it to a list. Linux Mint made it to a list and Zorin made it to a list. The MS-DOS clips are really funny!

OK, you got me. I could argue with your mum about her choices, but only because she's particularly cute when she's a bit miffed.
