Top 3 movie gun fights?

Saving Private Ryan is an excellent film, but I don't really think of war scenes as "gun fights," mainly because when I watch a gun fight in a movie, it's to be entertained by absurdity, not shocked by the reality of what people actually went through. You can't watch Saving Private Ryan's Normandy scene and scream "FUCK YEAH" unless you're a legitimate psychopath. It's a heart-wrenching display of the horrors of war. So while it's well done, it's also a scene I'm not itching to watch over and over.

John Woo needs more representation in this thread. Hard Boiled may be the best pure gun fight movie of all time, The Killer has some excellent gun fight scenes, Face/Off has some excellent gun fight scenes (particularly in the apartment), A Better Tomorrow has some excellent gun fights in it... The dude knows how to film a shootout. Step 1: Akimbo pistols. Step 2: Slow-motion. Step 3: Motherfucking doves. Step 4: There is no Step 4, because literally anything else thrown into that mix would destroy your mind.

That said, here's my list:

3. Predator - Storming the rebel camp (great action, great one-liners: "I ain't got time to bleed," "stick around," etc.)

2. Hard Boiled - The hospital scene. Fucking A.

1. Heat - The bank job. A scene so insane they made it into a GTA mission.

Honorable mention - The Matrix lobby scene, which I've probably scene more than every other shootout in movie history combined. I've come to find it slightly overrated, but that's probably just boredom through repetition.

Outside of what has been mentioned already, what comes to mind for me is Tombstone the scene where he is cornered and goes out like a mad man fighting everyone. Also special mention to the beginning of Dances with Wolves where Kevin Costner is riding across fields on his horse suicide style while the yanks are trying to kill him sparking the kick in the ass the north needed to kick some butt.

Not yet mentioned:

A Better Tomorrow - near the end, picking up and using all the guns he'd planted

Equilibrium - Gunkata!

Shoot 'Em Up - the whole movie. He is a wascally wabbit.

It's not much of a fight, but I always liked the scene in Terminator 2 when he takes the minigun and wipes out all the cop cars. I also like the scene at the mall where Arnie and the T-1000 are fighting it out..........

The gun battle in heat was really well done. My fiancee's kid saw it for the first time over the winter. His first comment was "wow those sound like real guns".

Commentary or a special feature on the DVD said that the gunfire sound bouncing around the downtown area was so unique that they kept it.

No one has mentioned "Extreme Prejudice" yet.

It was directed by Walter Hill who worked with Sam Pekinpah at one point so the ending shoot out scene has obvious references to the Wild Bunch

I like the nihilism. I have seen it on a crappy VHS copy and one or two times on HBO
it might be on hbo go since I last saw it on HBO about 3 or 4 months ago.

^early shoot out.

I don't really have a top 3 list but I think all of the previously listed movies do deserve mention.

I like Extreme Prejudice as well. It's a decent movie nothing especially excellent in terms of storyline but the shootouts are well done imo.

There's also an old western style, in the road, pistol duel near the end as well that I think is great.
