Top 2 iOS annoyances?

There are alot of sites like ustream that use flash video. It's just lame to pull up a website and not be able to fully view content.

IOS includes Java... you can toggle it on and off. Why not do that with flash too?

Most flash video sites have an iOS compatible stream. You can also use skyfire browser.

Also hate that it keeps every app EVER to be opened on the phone in the "ready to go" queue. Set options please -- like limit it to five or three. And if I ever figure out how to program that, I'll fucking do it. iPod function seems a bit clunky. This mystifies me as they sort of spun this off from the iPod. Why are equalizer settings not in the ipod, but in the settings under ipod? Annoying. And lastly, that 4.3.3 seems to just suck away the battery life. wtf Unless it's something wrong with this phone.

Since going to 4.3.3 on my iPad the battery meter will "stick" at 100% for almost an hour, and then drop like a rock down to 85% in less than 30 minutes. It's fine from there, but it's annoying.

1. Managing over iTunes - music, pictures, books... every bloody thing!
2. Sync to one PC only (the sync thing in general is a giant pain in the ass) - you want to retrieve some pics from your iPhone on a different computer? Only way is to email it. Music? Forget it.
3. Notifications - you could write a book about how much they suck on iOS
4. Poor memory management (my 3GS slows down after a while so much it's aggravating - have to use Activity Monitor to clear the memory, was a paid app...)
5. Zero lock screen customization
6. Zero quick look things on your home screens (aka widgets)
7. Multitasking management - the 2xhome list is useless, you don't even know what's running, it's more like "what did you start recently" - a joke in general

Pictures can be taken off from any computer. When you connect the iPhone the pictures are in an easily accessible place.

4 & 7. Close apps. Everything is saved in ram so when you switch back it comes back quickly. iOS is designed to fill up the ram so you have that capability. Close the apps you're not using.

Pictures I make with the camera, sure. Not the ones I sync'ed from a folder via iTunes. Closing the apps does absolutely nothing. I use mail, facebook, safari, engadget, beejiveIM and twitter and yet in the middle of a day the phone's UI becomes jerky and laggy and the same apps crash on opening or take ages to load / resume. Clicking on refresh of all mail inboxes and switching to engadget makes the phone cry in the afternoon. Running 4.3.3 btw.

In general I didn't like the way things are managed on the phone from the beginning. The more I use it, the more I hate it - everything is done in an inefficient way in my opinion and is very different from what I'm used to. Also, iTunes is an abomination. Hence, I don't like it and won't be buying anything Apple again, unless there's going to be a miracle with iOS5.

I think iOS is extremely more efficient than other mobile oses. By making developers code for fast app switching, they have to think about actually having their app close. Instead of just letting the app running in the background.

Agreed. I dont get this jerkyness you speak of. Often times i have 30 things open in the "drawer". Defective phone? Odd behavior in your choice of apps to run? Who knows.

Notifications and Multitasking

For multitasking I wish the apps currently open would fill up the whole screen in a grid instead of a small strip at the bottom.

my biggest 2 gripes:
Push notification system
Photo management (you cant orgizate your photo with folders) you have to do it on your computer.

At least currently, no automatic app updates. It's one thing I really prefer in Android.
Apparently iOS 5 will have it though.

I'd also love widgets and customization (without jailbreaking).

The downside I see with automatic app updates is that Apple has wifi turn off after a period of time. Hopefully those updates will only run when connected via wifi.

Also, some apps can be huge (GPS, games, etc..) so I'd hate to be in the middle of downloading an update to Infinity Blade or Navigon and leave the house and have something screwy happen (although I'm sure they'll have that sorted, if they go that route).

All true. I'm sure it would have to be the way it works in Android- you give apps permission to auto-update, otherwise its manual like always.

I just tend to hate it in iOS when I look and like 15 apps have an update in the app store and I have to contemplate doing them all at once, rather than most having auto-updated as they came up.

It might just be me, but I enjoy looking through the changelogs of new updates to apps to see what they added.

A user should always see the changelog on first opening an auto-updated app.

Granted, there's a certain level of trust involved doing this after the fact, rather than before, but then, why grant auto-update privileges to questionable app developers.

1) No alternate keys when long-pressing. I hate having to switch back and forth between the alpha/numbers/symbols keyboards.
2) Page reloading in Safari (when switching back and forth between tabs/apps). I imagine this is less of an issue in the iPad2 vs iPad1 with the additional RAM.

The only other 2 things that annoy me, but aren't really iOS issues:
- Exchange doesn't work quite right with gmail (deleting doesn't actually delete, etc...)
- No way (as far as I know) to make the iTunes sharing a background service in Windows. Application needs to be open.

How well it holds it's value, I wanted to buy a used one last month. I got an Evo 4g for much cheaper than a 3GS, I could have bought 2 EVO's for what 1 iPhone 4 was going for. I can't afford retail and don't wanna be in a contract

1) This is something that will never come to iOS because a file system is not something Apple wants on their devices. They don't want the user to have to worry about where to place documents and what not.

If you have to manually close apps via the app drawer, then the OS isn't doing it's job. Optimizing for fast switching is obviously a good thing, but any time the user has to manage resource that's a sign of a huge fail. I never kill or close anything on my Android phone and it performs exactly the same throughout the day and I don't think I've ever seen an app fail because of lack of memory.
