All this stuff we think of new stuff of today that was thought of maybe 50+ years ago, built, and working, just never put into public use.

Some of that stuff did come into use - just evolutions of each one's technology. The 14-ton (or whatever it weighed) camera is likely very similar to galley cameras used well into the 80s to produce maps and other large, detailed images. There's also plenty to recognize about the RAMAC hard drive - the ones in your machine, while hugely refined and miniaturized, operate very similarly.
