So if a mustang has the best how much would you have to spend on an aftermarket system for a similar one? $1500...?

I'm not suprised the Neon is up there, either. It was acoustically engineered very well.

Hooray for Altima! I love my sound system - the 6 CD changer and Bose sound w/ 8 speakers sounds great with any type of music.

As am I. The stock, 6-speaker system in my mom's 2000 Camry LE V-6 has received many positive comments from passengers. In fact, it's better than any system I've heard in a BMW, excluding an E38 740iL. I've read that the new Logic 7 system in the E65 745i is the best in the industry.

Damn. My passat is on there, but actually I wasn't really that impressed.

Probably the best sounding system that I've heard stock in any car was the Infinity system in a Jeep Grand Cherokee I test drove. Very clean and powerful sound.

My car's up there (A4) but to tell you the truth I dont think it has enough low end... especially since they brag about a subwoofer. I have the bass cranked up max (+6) and you (at least I dont) start to feel it until my volume is really high... anyway... the clarity is pretty nice though and I'd much rather have a clean clear sounding system than an overpowering bass system... only a smigen (sp?) more bass and it'd be almost perfect...

Personalization: MACH® 1000 Audio System
December 6, 2001

For automotive manufacturers looking to offer consumers a premium, state-of-the-art audio system, Visteon's MACH® 1000 Audio System is a differentiating, high-performance solution which recently made its production debut on the 2002 Ford Mustang.

This system delivers over 1000 watts of performance with a high sound pressure level, extremely low distortion levels, and exceptional low and high range frequency response. Specially engineered for the Mustang, the MACH 1000 Audio System's speaker size and direction have been tuned to meet the vehicle's acoustic needs, assuring consumers of smooth responses across the audible frequency range.

Personalized Audio
Along with being an AM/FM tuner, the head unit of the MACH 1000 Audio System has a six-disc, in-dash CD changer. With three occupancy modes (All Seats, Driver Seat and MACH 1000), the system can be personalized to the specific needs of the driver and passengers. MACH 1000 mode increases bass response by increasing the level to the trunk's subwoofers; the MACH button on the head unit conveniently activates this powerful audio mode.

Integrated Speaker System
One of the more practical benefits of this highly integrated system is that it takes up much less trunk space than comparable aftermarket systems, allowing consumers to maximize vehicle cargo space.

The system has 570 watts of continuous average power and 1140 watts of peak power. Three amplifiers, for a total of 460 watts, power four woofers and four midrange/tweeters. Additional power comes from two ten inch sealed subwoofer enclosures and four additional subwoofer amplifiers in the Mustang's trunk.

Also known as "Dual Voice Coil" speakers, the subwoofers have two coils working in parallel, which essentially gives consumers the power of two amplifiers within each subwoofer enclosure. This gives the system plenty of power and terrific bass frequency response; it can easily handle frequencies below 20 Hz.

Speed Sensitive Volume Control
Another unique feature of this system is the speed sensitive volume control, which automatically increases audio volume as vehicle speed increases. Consumers can personalize speed volume settings from levels of zero (lowest) to seven (highest) with the user-friendly interface of the in-dash unit.

Visteon worked closely with Ford engineers to create this memorable audio experience. Available as an option, the MACH 1000 Audio System has already received favorable reviews from Mustang enthusiasts and journalists. Edmunds.com said the system is "sure to please the more discerning Baby Boomers in your neighborhood."

The MACH 1000 Audio System is a flexible system that can fit the needs of any manufacturer and vehicle program. If your company requires an innovative audio solution that distinguishes your brands and gives consumers the power to personalize their vehicles, think Visteon.

Funny thing is Edmunds was comparing the Mustang using the Mach 460 and not the Mach 1000 which makes the 460 sound puny in comparison.

I'm surprised there is no mention for the IS300. It barely sneaks in under 30k, but I would take the 8 speaker, 240 watt Nakamichi system over any of those listed. Especially the sloppy Bose systems.
