I'd like to buy a used Miata, but the GF has sworn that she will cut off my penis if I buy one. No amount of fun will outweigh the chick-car persona for her. She's given her blessing to an S2000, though, so I'll just have to keep saving and "survive somehow" with double the power.

I love the S2000's but I can buy 3 NA Miatas for what a used S2000 costs.

Kick ass, I like the mods, and your dyno numbers are great.

How was the FM turbo to install?

I even ID'd the Hard Dog roll bar before I saw the list. :)

I'm waiting on the stereo head unit and my daughter's gets a whole new interior, carpet, katskinz etc all in boxes waiting to be installed :) Not looking forward to removing the dash though.

I scored a hardtop in Houston for $700, drove down there so quick at that price it was funny :) Not really liking it a lot though, am thinking of selling it this fall.

I got a set of leather steering wheel covers off eBay, they look better than the ripped up OEM steering wheels.

Do you post on Miata.net?

The first several pics are from right after I bought it. I used some black shoe dye on the steering wheel and it now looks 90% good as new. The blocks of wood are just there to give me enough clearance to get a jack under it. The turbo is actually an older Bell Engineering setup and came installed with the car. Doesn't look like it would have been a hard install though but not having to pay $3k for the kit is nice ;). At some point I'll get some bigger injectors so I can run around 10psi but I'm pretty happy for now with the power. Don't need a lot when your car only weighs 2300lbs. The hardtop is handy in the winter but being in Texas I doubt thats a big problem for you. I am on miata.net and miataturbo.net but I haven't posted a lot.

Convertibles are price sensitive to the seasons, just search Craigslist in your area in the winter for a low mileage one.

Miata.net is a great place to browse a little, I see some folks getting really good deals on low mileage NA's quite frequently.

Yep, I think they look great too and most people think they're a Porche or something pretty exotic.

I heard somewhere that the S2000 is basically a Miata for men. :p

Miata is a bit girly, especially the NB, but it's so much fun, I would still drive it, I don't care what people say.
It's one of those cars that you drive it once, you get the bug. It definitely delivers a lot of smiles per gallon.

+1 for Miatas!

My family's owned 5 over the years. My dad owned 4 NBs, and I currently own a slightly modded 2006 NC (since Aug '06).

Seriously, I don't get the "chick car" image very much at all. If you're talking about driver gender, I see FAR, FAR more female drivers in Z4s, Z3s, Solstice's, and Boxsters than Miatas. And trust me, I keep my eyes out. ;) I see many more men out there, and most of them wave. ;)

I can kind of see the "old man's car" image, since the majority of Miata enthusiasts tend to be middle aged guys, but seriously, if you let image dictate what car you drive, especially one of easily the most fun, best sports cars all-around in the world, you're not a real car enthusiast.

My g/f personally loves my car, and I've had literally dozens of compliments from various people in parking lots and drive-throughs, and it always turns lots of heads on the road, and all for around $20k brand new.

It's definetly one of the most fun cars to drive on the road, bar none. Once you drive it, you just get hooked. There's a good reason it has such a huge following and basically every car magazine and publication ranks it as one of the best sports cars out there.

Ah, and my cardomain site for my Miata (er...MX-5..sorry!) ;)

Yeah, the whole girl car thing had me for a long time.

I bought one for my daughter's first car, a couple of months before she got her license so I drove it back & forth to work, kept finding out I'd arrive at work or home with this big stupid grin on my face thinking that I hadn't enjoyed driving that much since I was a teenager and then driving turned into a chore as I got older.

Decided I could deal with the chick car image especially when I realized women really love cute little convertibles. I've crawled out of mine at gas stations & had unbelievable reactions from women, it seriously kicks ass. Being single & all, that's kind of important to me :)

I now have 2 97's (makes maintenance easier to have 2 of the same vehicles) and with the daughter being a teen driver & all the harsh reality of hers getting wrecked is pretty real so I have a back up for her, I'll just give her mine while I hunt down another 97'... I decided on the 97 because it's dirt simple, has dual airbags, uses the newer freon and is OBDII compliant.

Here's a huge pic of mine: 97 M

Another factoid is that the accident/injury rate for them is very low, evidently a combination of it's construction/engineering of the passenger tub area, it's relatively low power output with an emphasis on handling rather than raw HP & the relative skill of the driver, I suspect most owners really enjoy driving & are pretty good at it, thus avoiding accidents.

That is one fine specimen. How much would one of these run. Also, is there a difference in the interior dimensions of NA and NB? I know NC is a bit bigger, but how about the first 2 generations. I really like the look of NA more. It's sort of a classic. I like NC too, but they are a bit too much to justify as a weekend toy.

I've seen the NA's for $3.5K & up, both of mine are over 100K mile cars, and if you do the minimum maintenance on them they run up to 200K easily

Saw one this morning for $3.7K here

I think I'd rather have the MS6 with some coilovers, but I may be biased.

It blows my mind the new MX-5's share their chassis with RX-8's...
