=) From experience baking soda works best. I used whitening with baking soda.

works great, better than an alcohol pad or a wet tissue/rag

The bottom of my taisol is silver again, instead of that black/grey color!

let me know how it works for you guys,

Toothpaste actually contains a mild abrasive. You could do the final lapping stages with it as well. It's also good for polishing minute scratches out of compact discs.

Cheers!

You learn something new everyday!

Oh, the wonderful uses of toothpaste. And I thought it was to clean your teeth! ;)

Any brand of toothpaste particulary useful or are they all the same?

Some are more abrasive than others. Particularly abrasive are the ones for removing nicotene and coffee stains. Placing a glob of this on a 12x12 highly polished marble tile and rubbing in a orbital motion will definitely polish the HS very nice. If this is an unfinished HS with millmarks you'll need to sand it with 400-600-800-1200 at first to at least achieve a partially mirrored finish.

Cheers!

I use colgate extra whitening with baking soda!

seems the baking soda adds to the abrasiveness. yet somehow, toothpate cleans the bottom residue, resulting from the chemical reaction frmo HS paste and the heatsink.
