Toothpaste and Vegemite(TM) superior to AS-3...heh.

Nice!!!!

After some heat problems with my XP2200 and trying both silver compound and Radio Shack white silicon compound I began to wonder if there was any tangible difference.

I think I'll try Colgate next time!

vegimite is honestly the worst tasting substance on the face of teh earth. personally id rather eat sh!t

but i guess its cool that it works as a thermal compound

Except that DansData has a completely inappropriate contact surface size for testing 😉. Its like 7 times the size of an athlon die.

Yeah, Radio shack is as good as AS3. Especially when you're talking about contact surface that nullify's any benefit of grease, and a contact surface 6 times the size of an Athlon DIE.

When you increase contact surface, grease benefits drop.

And if the radio shack stuff is just as good as AS, hwo come fellow forum member WarCon got his T-bird to o/c a full 100mhz more with AS? His grease testing was quite thorough, but unfortunately his test thread was deleted.

Cute little experiment in that thread but I noticed he tested all the thermal products on the market BEFORE testing the toothpaste and Vegimite. Did he use different heat sinks and chips for each test which were free of all previous compounds? If not, did the residues left behind from thermal compound affect or promote the good temps when using the two materials? If you are going to compare products you must do it scientifically for it to be valid.

Use a good solid paste, like JB Weld. Fluid pastes are inherently poor conduits of heat.

Edit: I am kidding about the JB Weld if you ever want to pull it off the core! Otherwise it works really well. hehe

This was posted here some months back, but I can't find it. I just realized how crappy the search feature here is now.
You can't search for a term unless it is in the post title. Am I missing something here?

Marmite > Vegemite

not surprised it tastes like shi t if your trying to eat it off your cpu.

ps. i'm a little confused what u lot are on about. I figured his point was what a lot of crap the whole benchmark tosh is, hence the references to "how to lie with statistics". But then i didnt bother to read it either.
