Yes, I am going to see the dentist in approximately three hours.

This thing hurts like a motherfucker but the painkillers are helping. Anyone had a similar problem and can give me an idea of what to expect as far as treatment?

It's dentin. Dentyne is chewing gum. ;)

You have root exposure. They might be able to put some desensitizing varnish on it to help or if there is decay there you'll need a good ole filling (composite filling - tooth colored)

Let me ask you, do you use a hard bristled toothbrush and/or do you brush hard? That is sometimes the reason for gum recession.

yeh, even a soft bristled brush can cause gum damage if you scrub with it.
sonicare = :thumbsup:

Word. Thanks for the tips.

I overslept and this is going to have to wait until Wednesday (m'fn YAY!) so in the meantime I bought a huge bottle of Ibuprofen and a tube of Orajel. I really have no other option but to wait on this so instead of brushing I'm just going to rinse the shit out of the area with mouthwash and I bought a soft bristle brush for the rest of my teeth.

Thanks again.

P.S. Sounds like mild to moderate gum disease. My NON MEDICAL opinion having had similar problems:

-- Use a soft brush and always floss
-- Get a thorough cleaning which may involve something called root planing where they clean under your gums
-- Eat less sugar, etc.

Basically if you have gum disease, your gums start to retreat and detach from your teeth. Are your gums reddish and bleed easily? That's a good indicator.

Anyway totally curable with good hygiene, regular dentist visits, and possibly some special cleaning under your gums.

Crap. That probably irritated the shit out of it. I'll just rinse with hot water or maybe...saline?

Edit button motherfucker, DO YOU USE IT?

Anyway, I think one of my wisdom teeth has become impacted, even though the dentist said I'd never need to have them taken out. Either that or I have TMJ starting up. At any rate, the right side of my mouth hurts like a bitch whenever I chew or move my jaw, so I'm in some similar pain. I have to wait six weeks for my appointment though :(
