TOOLS: Ridgid 12V lithium Drill/Impact combo

I love power tools and this combo set for $179 can't be beat.
I just picked up a set myself yesterday. Some HD's are running out of stock.

the drill alone by itself sells for 139.

I saw this in Home Depot and it looked pretty appealing. I wouldn't get much use out of the impact driver though, and I don't need another drill. I've decided that a lightweight lower voltage drill is the way to go for driving most screws. For a long time I looked for a good electric screwdriver, because my wife always complains that my 18v drill is too heavy. Most electric screwdrivers have only one or two speeds; the trigger is either on or off. A drill/driver allows you to modulate the speed with the trigger; they're much better for driving screws than an electric screwdriver. I found a 9.6v DeWalt on clearance at Home Depot, and it gets so much more use than my 18v drill - just because it weighs so much less. I don't think I'd buy a cheap low voltage drill, but a good low voltage drill is worth having.

as someone who uses a drill often and an impact driver constantly, i would rather have a 14.4v makita set with nimh batteries for about the same price.

yeah, it won't have a lifetime warranty, but i'd rather not need one than have to go back to home depot a couple times a year to exchange rigid tools.

I've got close to a dozen different ridgid tools and only one of them had any troubles. I had an orbital sander that died after a couple minutes of use. Outside of that everything has been flawless. I haven't seen any reviews or owners that have said otherwise. They seem to be durable, well built and reliable equipment. Not sure where the "return it several times" comment comes from.

As for the impact driver - I never realized how nice they were until I got one. It makes driving screws into wall studs a piece of cake. Cabinets...plywood...brackets...ect. It drives a 3" wood screw in like a knife through warm butter.

maybe i just have something against companies that can't spell. ;P

actually i'm just saying that ~200 bones for a home depot brand combo kit is not a great deal, considering i gave that much over a year ago for a makita kit with more voltage and bigger batteries (and a light). and i've used my impact for 40 hours a week or more since then with no issues. never had that kinda luck with craftsman, ryobi, ridgid, et al.

I've had good luck with ridgid tools also. I have a 18v cordless set, a reciprocating saw, wet/dry vac, and my recent Hot Deals purchase, 10inch cast iron table saw.

I don't know about their other tools, but Ridgid cordless drills are equal to or better than anything Makita or Dewalt are making now. I bought one a couple of years ago after getting frustrated with the name brands battery life and was surprised at the build quality.

Do you guys happen to know of any bargain/hot deal sites just dedicated to tools/hardware? There are plenty for electronics just wondering about tools.

Yep. Ask any contruction guy.. or ask hard ware store people... dewalt comes back for repairs/returns way more than ridgid.

I've been told more than once as far as power tools go it goes Milwakii and bosh the best then Ridgid, then mikita, then dewalt.

makita drill/impact set comes both 1/4", the reason why I didget get that during black friday.

but what really pushed me over was lifetime warranty. It's for home repair, occational building tool. I want it to last.
