Tool for checking what encoding a video file has?

Anyone know a tool to check what codec is used for a video file? Thanks!

I just use Virtual Dub since I edit a lot and I'm used to it (File -> File Information), but a lot of people use G-spot for this.

I've used KC Software's VideoInspector. Open up the video inside this program, and it'll tell you Resolution, Bitrate, etc of both audio and video channels, and also what codec it requires. As an added bonus, it'll tell you whether the codec in question is installed or not.

I use AVIcodec though I think I'll try out that gspot others are recommending.
