My brother actually, he is outside right now and there are no keys in the ignition of his focus but its still running! anyone have any ideas of what to do to stop the engine. he already tried putting the keys in and turning them and then turning it off again.

UPDATE: He tried putting the keys in again and driving around the block and then taking them out and it turned off.

I was gonna say pull the coil wire, but I bet it's a distibutorless ignition if it's a newish focus. If it's manual, you could let out the clutch in first while holding the brake. Not the best way, but it'd stop the motor.

lol, my friend had an old car that he could take the keys out while the car was running. he was able to put them back in to turn the car off though.

That's the first thought I had too.

Try turning it on, then back off. If it's not a case of it dieseling, I'd guess it was something with the switch. Try turning it on and off a few times... maybe it'll catch. Otherwise, reach under the dashboard and rip out all the wires 🙂 Pretend it's a bomb and try to figure out which color wire to cut.

Someone above suggested disconnecting the battery... don't waste your time. Unless the alternator is bad, it'll keep running without the battery in it.
