Just out of curiosity, how do you go about racing on a track like that? Do they charge per run? hour? day? How much does it cost?

I went through http://www.hookedondriving.com/home.cfm but there are many many clubs that hold these events. I think the best way to find a club is to find a local track and check their calendar (for example http://www.thunderhill.com/html/get_your_fill_at_the.HTM ).

I paid $240 for the day 5 sessions, ~20 mins per session or about 5 laps because I was in the beginner group. That's a bit on the high side, seen many for $200 a day.

Question - if you were to crash, I assume insurance wouldn't cover it? Can you buy insurance that would cover your car while you're racing?

I'm pretty sure your insurance wouldn't cover it but I've never heard of buying insurance that does.

A lot of bikers get their insurance to cover it if they're in the beginner class, the ones that have instructors. A big thing is to establish ahead of time that it isn't a timed event, but more of a driving class to develop skill and technique.

Of course if you're in the more advanced classes where you're pretty much racing, its harder to get them to cover it.

It varies by provider, but normally as long as you do not have a live timing device on your car, you can fudge it by saying you were attending a driving school program (vs. tracking your car).

Hmmm - turn 10 is kind of a weird place to go off unless you were carrying waay to much speed as its not a very challenging turn. Did you guys run the bypass?
