took my 2 x 120mm off the "fan only" connector...

...and all i can say is 'wow'. and you probably wouldnt even hear me if i said it.

i've got an Antec sonata that i added an extra 120mm fan to when i built the machine...i didnt even check to see what temps would be like with only the rear exhaust fan. for 3-4 weeks now, i've been letting both fans run on the fan only connector. it was fairly quiet and pretty cool (25c MB temp). now, i've taken the two fans and put them on the standard 12volt power connector...MB and CPU have dropped 5 deg C each...but it's freakin LOUD!

gonna leave it like this and see how long it takes to make me and/or my roommates neurotic, then probably switch it back to the fan only connections:Q

yeah im in the same boat. i played around with the fan only and regular fan.

i actually changed the front 120 to run off the mobo and it's still quiet. When i ran both fans off the regular psu, it was loud. i didn't bother to let it stay like that. 5C drop? that's pretty good. that'd put me at :

32C CPU and 19C System.

not worth the extra noise before i go to sleep. though, when summer comes, i might pump up the speed.

so...6 or so hours later, and pc usage time of approximately 2 hours, i couldnt stand it anymore. back to 7 volts for me. i never expected it to be quite that loud.:Q
