Warning!!! Long read!! Multiple complaining!!

Ok, so I'm taking a quiz for my stupid intro to the internet class, and come upon this question.

7. HTML version ____ included additional support for creating and formatting tables and expanded the options for interactive form elements.

A) 1.0
B) 2.0
C) 3.0
D) 4.01

Now, its an open book quiz so I referred to this chart.
The answer is very clearly version 3.2 so I noted it and emailed him so he could fix the quiz. I really didn't care about one question, but it should have been fixed regardless.

His response was "Please check the book again. The answer is 3.0 and not 3.2"

So I just wrote him back with that picture of the chart as an attachment and this message.

"I did check my book again and again, which is why I emailed you about the incorrect answers. Perhaps you need to check your book again. Maybe different versions exist with misprints. Either that or you just never checked. Anyways, I attached a picture of the chart in my book so you can see for yourself."

Just needed to vent.

Good job.

I hated teachers like that in College... Waste of time... I would fight it to the end just to make the guy have a crappy day... and get my 1 mark... :)

This guy doesn't act much like a teacher. He didn't create any of the tests or any of the assignments. Everything is straight from the textbook. He doesn't check when a student emails him a problem.

I'll smart off to whoever I want, its better then just getting mad at him and not doing anything about it. I find it very funny that you guys would be to worried about a grade to say something. I dont give a crap what grade I get, as I already havn't learned squat from the class other then the fact that I'm never using that university again.

And yes I'm in Afghanistan.

Maybe YOU should check my book, since I posted a picture of it. And wound tight isn't even the start.

Lol, this class is FUBAR... I just took another quiz and it was filled with questions like this...

12. You should write a link to an id as:
<a href="#new"><h2>New Material</h2></a>
not as:
<h2><a href="#new">New Material</a></h2>

A) True
B) False

uhh.. wtf??? And then on the gradsheet there are 8 written assigments but theres actually only 7. Anyways, I'm pouring this all onto him now on the class webboard.

Not to mention the fact that no images show up on quizes, and about 10% of the questions refer to "in the image above", which all students are experiencing.

Instead of a picture from the book, you should have sent him a picture of you with your gun pointing at the appropriate diagram in the book. Then he'd get it...

I totally agree with your right to be pissed off and complain, I've just never had it in me to smart of
to a teacher, I've been adamant but never curt.

It's half-wrong in the book it seems. 3.0 was meant to support those, but was never really used and therefor 3.2 was the real replacement instead. So while the book correctly notes that 'in the wild' it was added by 3.2, in theory it was already added by 3.0.

P.S. Your teacher is still a d**k for asking it that way when the questions should concern the material in the book.

When I was in tech school in the AF, I usually got at least one question thrown out of every test because there was something wrong with it. I just explained it to the instructor, and they never gave me any problems with it.

What did you answer in the first one? If you feel the need to vent it's obviously because you did something stupid on that question like answer 4.0.

The real problem is that this is useless bit of trivia to learn, with no connection to real-world web design. No one does web design for HTML 1-2 so learning what was lacking in them is pointless and stupid.

Differences in CSS and DHTML support in browser versions like IE 5 - 5.5 - 6 and zillas are worth knowing, this is not.

it's fine to point out his mistake and tell him so, but doing it in a condescending way like writing "Either that or you just never checked" makes YOU look like an ass.

know which battles to fight and how to fight them.
