Long story short...friend taking a pic of me feeding some doritos to the ducks...combine my body weight slightly shifted over to the left along with a big wave due to a big motor boat=flipped under water and stuck there for nearly an hour while many boats passed buy and watched me (one even bothered to save my friend, remount them despite the fact they were like stunned at what happened, and totally ignore me).

i haven't touched the camera in 48 hours worrying it died. luckily just now i tried the pics and I still have them, thank god coompact flash

camera is dead for sure and doesn't turn on.

I bought it in June 2004 at Circuit City (Canon A75). I don't like to take risks on big ticket items, so I purchased 49.99 PRP for 36 months...

Now the ultimate question:

was my 50 extra bucks well spent, or was the conditions which caused the untimely death of my camera my fault and will not be honored by the warranty?

I searched CC's page and found
http://www.cityadvantage.com

I went to "file a claim", and even though I have original receipt (and the brochure for PRP with all the writing on it buy the guy who sold it) it would not recognize my ticket number. Tried several times and doesn't work...

so i figure call in tomorrow...but I want to get a heads up to see if my claim will be valid or not, as that would releive a little bit of tension

So whaddya say ATOT, will I get a new A75?

Yes, but at the same time isn't the point of buying the PRP to cover junk like that? I thought limited manufacter warranty would not cover water damage, but these things were supposed too...

ah well, I just want to get atleast this replaced. My cellphone also took a dive (just after I get a new one and turned down the 3/month warranty that according to them would cover everything from "accidental damage to getting it sent through the washer") so I'll have to bite the dust on that...

But if I had to pay 50 dollars...and they will deny me based on water damage then the PRP plans are B.S. I know they are money makers for companies, but now I feel stupid for making the assumption they covered everything.

You should read what you are buying, the coverage just extends the manufactures coverage. If you were to send it in within the first year of coverage, circuitcity just sends it to the manufacture. Once they get it back, they send it back to you.

friggin ghetto...no more PRPs for me

but on another note I may cancel my PRP with CC but that will really reduce my possiblities...since a year went into it thats about .66*50-25 Admin fee i keep...which equates to 5 bucks. Wow i'm f'ing mad now...

stupid arse plans :(

any suggestions?

btw, i actually simplified the story a little...my friend's camera was actually the one being used, but she had taken it out of the water proof container like 1 minute b4 the incident. mine was turned off, but b/c it was not in the water proof container it got pwned

Yea, extended service plans are almost pure profit. This is true for all retailers...

If something is going to happen, its going to happen within the first year. They just replicate the manufactures warranty. So when something does go wrong, the retailer just sends it to the manufacture and pays for shipping. They offer "other" types of coverage like surge protection and other BS items so the can charge for the plan and have it include the 1st year...even though its already covered.

oy...ah well now i doubt i'll get a camera anytime soon~ although i'll probably start looking at the options...will probably go back to canon A series since it is seen as the best prosumer camera out there, unless things changed recently.

anyways will also do a daytime bump later to see if maybe some weird loophole option appears

Well, you can "cancel" the plan, but they will prorate it by how much you've used the plan. Time does count for use, so you won't get all that much as you've stated. You can wait some more and send it in anyways and see if they'll fix it for you. Though, if they send it back to you and then you cancel the plan...you will get even less.

How much would fixing it generally cost? I know it sounds similar to a question like ,"My computer isn't helping, can someone tell me what to do" but does the cost to fix usually exceed or near the price? I've heard stuff like M$ and Sony charge 100 dollars to fix their 150 dollar machines...so I won't want to send it in if I'm going to get raped like crazy
