Took a flying trapeze class a couple days ago, http://newyork.trapezeschool.com/. Wow it was fun. After a brief orientation about how to take off, they get you up to the platform, and on the first swing, they have you bring your legs up while swinging and do the knee hang trick. Second time up, they show you how to do a flip on the dismount. After a couple more reps to practice, and then one of the instructors gets on the opposite trapeze and you get to try being caught. Most of the beginners had trouble completing that exchange, but there were a couple more experienced students there who managed to do some pretty cool tricks in midair.

Two hour class, 7 students, we each got to swing 5-6 times, which is more than enough for a beginner.

highly recommended for anyone in the nyc area. and supposedly there are trapeze schools in most major cities, so go give it a try!

The resort I'm going to in May has a trapeze school (Breezes Bahamas). My wife/I are very excited (it was one of the reasons we chose it). Glad to hear it's a fun time!

Got any tips?

If you got good instructors, they will make it easy. I'm not very flexible, so they showed gave me tips on how to get my legs over the bar to do the knee hang. They shout instructions to you while you're in the air, just be sure to listen.

Sounds scary as hell. How far up are you?

The platform is about 25-30ft up in the air? Climbing up the ladder and standnig on the platform right before takeoff is probably the scariest part. Once you start swinging, you forget how high up you are.
