I had trouble with a company last year. I opted for a free trial on a product and received a 6 year supply (value $180). I returned the stuff - at my own expense. I had proof that the package had been received by their company. But, somehow, I didn't have proof of the contents in the box (even though the box was the same weight as when they sent it to me - verified by the postal office.)
Finally, after I had enough of the run-around and threats from them, they called me yet again...
"Yes, I have made arrangements to take care of this alleged debt that I deny I owe your company. I have contacted the attorney general's office in my state and was referred to the attorney general's office in your state. They have it on record in both states now that I've made a complaint about your business practices. Furthermore, the attorney general in your state seemed quite familiar with your company and stated that this was far from their first complaint. Furthermore, you've been sued in several states for your business practices. Since your company seems unwilling to resolve this matter appropriately, I'm not waiting around to see that it IS resolved." Suddenly, they were able to resolve the whole problem in one phone call.
