Too much voltage?

I have a Tbird 1.2 running on my Abit KT7A-RAID (See sig). When I run it at 9.5*133 @ 1.85V, windows 2k biffs it right away on the desktop...usually an ilegal opp in some service. However, if I turn down the voltage to 1.8 and run it at 10*133, it works without a flaw!! Is there a point where the processor has to be running faster at a certain voltage? It just doesn't make any sense to me at all...

That is kind of strange. But 1.85 should increase your stability. I have my Duron600@1050 right now @1.85 volts and it is running perfectly fine. 1.85 shouldn't hurt it at all.

I have heard that, actually several times over the last month or 2. [H (I think) had a news article up a few weeks (or months...i cant keep track any more) ago about it. Seems people got better performance when dropping the core voltage. I suspect it had to do with heat buildup in the core. There is time delay in thermal transport, which gets critical as you up the clock and keep keep the thermal gradient the same. Or something.

I'll let someone else hungry for Karma go dig up the URL. My wrist hurts from too much CS (gotta learn those new maps, ya know.)
