I have my P4 2A running at 2.76 GHz with Vantec Aeroflow air cooling. Default voltage is 1.5V, but it goes all the way up to 1.8 in the BIOS, how much voltage is too much?
Actually I ran my 1.6a@2.74ghz with 1.7v for over 1 year and it still is running for the guy I sold it to today at 2.66ghz w/ 1.66v actual...
o1die is right that once it starts needing vcore the amount each vcore jump gives less and less fsb...I think from 1.5v stable to 1.71v stable I did garner another 200mhz or 13-14fsb....
General rule of thumb is 10% is safe so 1.65v actual is well within safety bounds...
Infamous SNDS (Sudden Northwood Death Syndrome) usually happened when ppl were above 1.75v and in the 1.8v...thet thought they were safe cause they ran water.....
If I recall 1.7v should not be exceeded as this can lead to Northwood death syndrome from too much voltage(it may have been 1.75..but to be safe stay at 1.7v or less)...also some mobo undervolt(my It & max 2 rev2..undervolts 0.25v) and some overvolt
