Too many svchost processes running on PC

Please pardon my lack of knowledge. I noticed there are too many ( 3 by system, one by LAN and one by WAN) running on my PC and they control big chunk of my memory. Can some one explain, why so many and any way to optimized? I am using WLAN for connection and also have additional NIC card and modem in my configuration.

Thanks,

shreeit

Svchost.exe hosts all the system services. A big chunk of the OS. Its perfectly normal for there to be around 5 svchost.exe processes listed.
