Too many fonts...

Last night I loaded up over 6000 TrueType fonts into the Font directory within Windows, and now when I boot up, it takes nearly six minutes from the time I logon until I see my desktop. I dont want to get rid of the fonts, because I need them, but is there a way to speed up the booting process? I'm sure I'm not the only one out there who has massed up a lot of fonts and has came across this problem...any advice, suggestions, and tips are appreciated.

If it matters, I am running Windows XP Pro on a Pentium4 3.2 HT with 1Gb of DDR333.

A freeware program called FontLoader is one of many third-party managers that help you keep on top of your fonts. Copy unwanted and little-used fonts to categorised folders and FontLoader will list them as groups that can be temporarily installed/uninstalled at the push of a button.

This keeps the number of active fonts to a minimum but enables you to keep others available for occasions when you need extra choice. If you use FontLoader, be sure to read the section in the help file that deals with installing a font versus loading it - an important and useful distinction.
