Before people start railing you about destroying the environment, you might want to provide justification for getting an SUV.

It's a buyers market at this point in time.
Good deals galore I'm guessing.

Kia Sorento - doesn't look cheap

except maybe in that picture *smirk*

lol...ok. Space...and AWD. Also, the ability to tow would be nice. I destroy the environment enough with my GTO. :p

Driving a SUV is like driving a shopping cart when compared to your GTO.

used trailblazer.

the unibody stationwagon things don't tow very well. they usually don't have enough engine to do it and, even if they do, the unibody tends to warp and your doors never shut quite right afterward.

awd and 4wd are not the same thing.

I drive a Hyundai Santa Fe and I like it a lot. If you upgrade to the theV6 (the good one, not the model that is only has 30 more hp), it should be able to tow. I bought it new for 15k out the door after a few hours of "negotiating" and it had a list price of 19k + tax and title.

Also, they came out with the Tucson, but I haven't driven in one yet, so I don't know what's different about it.

Honda Element

seriously...at least drive one.

I compared just about everything, Saturn Vue, Pontiac Vibe, Equinox, Escape, Liberty, Rav4, Highlander, etc. I bought an Element and don't regret it a bit. The outside is ugly looking at first, but the inside is awesome. I'm 6'2" and can sleep in the back by myself with the seats up, or with the seats flat I put a double air mattress in it and sleep like a baby.

Xterra or Element. The GF owns an 04 Xterra and I like it. The 05s are even better but I doubt you'll find one for $22k.

Suzuki's Grand Vitara is decent & can go off road but not very powerful, if you don't need a back seat then a Toyota 4x4 Tacoma pickup is pretty much un-killable & should be reasonable in price, mid-sized the Nissan Xterra or a Chevy Trail-blazer if you can deal with rattles after 20k.
