too late to plant grass seed?

Best to do it in the fall. BUt thats not to say you can't patch some spots. But new grass has a hard time when it gets real hot and dry. I put down some grass seed about 2 months ago and luckily it has been wet and cool in Tennessee so it has done very well.

we put down some grass seed on saturday.. it hasn't really been too hot here (actually kinda chilly lately) and the it rains every other week. So hopefully we'll have some nice looking grass before it starts to really get hot. yay!

After you sow the seed, spread a thin layer of straw over the top to help the area stay evenly moist while the seeds are germinating and taking root. The straw will break down fairly quickly. Use straw, not hay, or you'll be introducing seeds of stuff you don't want growing there. All the straw will do, at most, is give you a wheat or barley plant or two that will be killed when it's mowed.
