Too hot to crunch

After a few days of high temps in New England, I shut down my rigs. D:

It looks like we'll have more reasonable temps this weekend so I'll fire them up again on Saturday (I hope). :hmm:

To everyone on the east coast USA: Keep cool!: 😎

yeah.. I shut down my c2quads during the day (i leave my i7/i5 on) so temps don't get to high in the abode... my phII stays on all the time, but then it's just sitting outside on the porch.

I have shut down 3 comps (out of 24) that dropped thre temp in the computer room just enough ... the room temp is approx 28ºC just at the lever of the highest comp - under the roof (where the fan of the heat exchanger is) the temp is approx 35ºC. Thank God for the laws of physics ...

was going to ask why the thumb down beside thread title.
caught myself on. lol 🙂
i do that sometimes 😀

The thumbs down was because I was bummed out.

Step 1: click on "no new tasks" button 🙁
Step 2: upload completed tasks 🙂
Step 3: shut down the rigs 🙁🙁

Weird story. We've had off/on phone, cable TV and internet access the last couple of days. All services are provided by cable company. I called in yesterday and they said there was an outage (rare). This morning I called in again and they set up a service call to correct the problem. I checked the outside line and noticed a periodic "clicking" sound coming from the cable box on the side of the house. Weird. A short time later the cable company called and said they have been "testing our equipment" and that was the source of the clicking noise. Testing our equipment for hours at a time? :sneaky:

My wife and I think FBI, CIA or maybe interpol!!

So, how long has that floral delivery van been parked across the street ?? :\

A/C is still running fine down here. The crazy heat ended for now. It was only ninety degrees today. It might even rain tonight.

Down to mid 80's up here so I just fired up the rigs on CPUs only. BTW, that flower delivery van across the street is gone! 😱

I used to run a dozen computers in the 140 degree attic.

JW Middleton came over and saw the set up.

I never understood the "Its to hot to run". Don't you have air conditioning or you use computers out in the yard? 😛 It could be 100+ degrees outside I would never shut down my computers.

It's a personal choice. It's hard for me to justify generating that much heat while the AC is working hard to keep the house cool at close to 100F temps. The power grid in the Boston metro area was stretched thin so they also asked for voluntary cutbacks in electricity consumption. Maybe the title of the thread should have been "it's too hot for me to crunch."

It was over 100 here yesterday. The problem is that the AC has limits. With it that hot, I can only run 4-5 computers, not all 14. With 5 running yesterday, it was over 80 in the house.

This is why I had to get a window AC unit for the office, even though we have central air and heat. But my cruncher is down (mobo) and laptop is dead (screen cracked)... Building a new machine, because I just can't handle not having a computer.

My AMD x4 rig shut down a couple of days ago on it's own here in NYC. The Intel Q6600 box was still going strong but one of the fans was intermittering racing so I shut it down this morning. The only thing still crunching is the PS3 so regrets about the shortfall of numbers for FAH crunch for the time being.
