Well, I just recently got a PM from someone offering me a dell 2400 for 100$. Of course, this sounded too good to be true, even though he said there were no Optical Drives, and no ram.
I'm just wondering what all of your opinions are, is he trust worthy?
I could get majorly scammed here, but if he were scamming me, would he mention that there were no drives/ram/etc?
Here's the PM log :
---------------------------------------------------------------------
ShadowBlade : Ill sell you my dell dimension 2400 for $100, needs ram, front panel of case damaged
i live in kalamazoo, mi, if you dont want to pay a lot for shipping and would rather drive, we can arrange to meet somewhere if you want it
and if you do want to pay for shipping, you'll have to mail a money order, i cant use paypal
ShadowBlade : sorry...something else about my dell i forgot to tell you is that it also doesnt have any optical drives
LoKe : Can I get full specs of this please?
And what guarantee do I have that this buy would go through? I don't like getting scammed. ^_^
ShadowBlade : dell dimension 2400 mobo
2.4GHz celeron
256MB RAM, PC2100 (sorry, i checked again, i thought i had sold it)
200W dell psu
4.3GB seagate HD (the WD/dell 40GB will be back in it in about 2 weeks)
no optical drives (wont be coming back ever)
im sorry, theres no real way to guarentee it, i dont ebay or use heatware (currently)
if youre interested and need any more info, call me at 269-375-7051 (US number, obviously) between 5PM and 9PM on weekdays, anytime on any weekend, ask for Alex
with the 40GB HD, itll be $120, without $100
LoKe : Such a tempting offer, but like I said, I don't want to be scammed. Have you done any other sales on this board?
ShadowBlade : no, because i dont usually have things to get rid of
if you dont trust me and are able to drive to michigan, like i said, we can meet in person
LoKe : I'm 17, I'm not quite able to make the trip.
Unless you could come to me, and I could pay for your gas?
ShadowBlade : well, im 17 also and without a car
looks like we're in a real kanundrum
i understand your skepticism about this, the best i could do is assure you i wouldnt scam you
LoKe : I'm just wondering why you'd be asking 100$ for that system, what's wrong with it?
ShadowBlade : nothing, my mom got it for free through a saturn promotion maybe a year or two ago and i dont use it anymore
the only thing thats wrong is the damaged front pannel, ill take some pics and send a link to you
LoKe : The damaged case really doesn't matter to me, it's not a big deal really.
I know this is stretching a big far, but is there any possibility you could send it to me and then upon delivery I pay for it? I'd even pay you a bit more to have this safety.
I can understand if you don't want to do that, because that would require trusting me, which is the same situation I'm in.
If not, then I don't think I can do it. I don't come across money that often(only work one day a week), so if I were to get scammed, I'd have to put off building a computer for a while longer.

Opinions? Sounds legit, but the risk...
