Too early to ask this?

Just as much info as there is with ATI's 10800 (not X800 or X1800) series. All we know is they will be released at the end of next year and be DX10 capable along with Windows Vista.

what? I just dropped 375 on a videocard and now the 8 series is coming out right around the corner. geez

there are rumors of a 7800 ultra depending on the x1800 series performance

Ati is also bound to refresh their product with minor speed bumps...

nothing too huge tho right? i cant justify the preformance jump from a 6800gt to a 7800gt. not for the price right now atleast. especially factoring in the price of a new mobo. no deal i say.

Geforce 8 = 4 times more powerful than 6800 Ultra according to Tim Sweeney at Epic. Sweet! 🙂
That's why I got an X700 Pro while I'm patiently waiting. (got it for $135 CDN at Tigerdirect.ca, the 256 MB model is on sale right now)

If each generation brings 80-100% performance then it shouldn't be much of a surprise.
I buy every 2nd gen too, 4200Ti -> R9800pro -> 7800GTX. But I tend to buy the 2nd generation of the "old" technology. GF4 instead of GF3, 9800 instead of 9700, 7800 instead of 6800.

im hoping for some good benches from the x1800. if it turns out better than the 7800 then maby ill bite. dont think im looken to sli thatd be a lil too expencive but i just want a card thatll run everything on high on my 2405. looks like i may have put too much into the monitor and not enough in to the vid card 😱

Not entirely true. We've seen parts of ATI's R600 in the Xenos GPU.

Right, but there have been a few generations where the speed was only about a 30-40% increase. It all depends... I am not sure how Tim Sweeny can know the speed of a GeForce 8 already, I mean, that would mean the card has been designed fully and that nVidia has a working design. If that is the case, then I guess nVidia would just be soaking up some change.

HUH?? is that saying that Windows Vista will require a DX10 capable graphics card to run?

no, microsoft has to sell their OS to the average user, if directx10 cards are coming out in 12-16 months, we'll have directx10 games in like 24 months

As is apparent from this article nvidia has no plans of bring unified shaders in the G80. If ATI has it right and the Unified shaders perform as specified. Nvidia well be playing catchup just like they did with the R300 . Great that ATI is going out and actually working on the next generation today. The Xbox 2 will demo this tech and I believe it will be spectacular. R 600 will be second generation doubling the performance of the R500.

The best part it is that it all happens at the same time . R600/ Windows Vista/Intel Conroe . Going to be a lot of upgrading going on

It will require WGF 1.0 to run Vista but at a speed peneality as compared to a WGF2.0
You will need a DX9L card to run vista even though it won't be that effective. R520 and G70 can run Vista but not effectively.

Most DX9 vid cards will run fine. You won't notice a speed degradation anymore than you would with XP with full visual effects vs no effects. I have aero glass running on software emulation and speed is still acceptable.
