Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 keeps bombing out in WinXP Pro

OK, I just got a Gravis Xterminator Force Gamepad and it came with THPS2. It will load the game and get to the main menu, but whenever I click on something, it boots me back to the desktop and shuts down the game. I've even tried running it in Win98/Me compatibility mode. I'm using the latest NVIDIA reference drivers and my system config is in my sig.

I looked around for some patches, but can't find any for the game.

From the start menu, click run, then type in DxDiag, after it loads, you will see a tab at the top labeled sound, click the sound tab and you will see a slider control about half or more down the page and it should be at full acceleration if you have this problem, so use the mouse and slide that button thing on it down to BASIC ACCLERATION and then exit the DxDiag then go to your THPS2 game and it should work fine now! DID THAT HELP?? I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT SUCKED!

Yeah, I had that same damn problem I was stumped for a little, then I decided to call the Hotline thing and I went through that automated crap then I found it somewhere deep in that phone line but hey, it was worth it.
