Tony Blair has finally apologised for the Iraq War. The former Prime Minister said he accepts that the conflict has been a factor in the rise of Islamic State. Blair made the startling confession during a TV interview in which he acknowledged the 'hell' that had resulted from his and George Bush's decision in 2003, to oust Saddam Hussein from power.

...Blair is asked point-blank: "Was the Iraq War a mistake?" He replies matter of factly: "I apologise for the fact that the intelligence we received was wrong. I also apologise for some of the mistakes in planning and, certainly, our mistake in our understanding of what would happen once you removed the regime.

Mail online reports that when asked if the Iraq War was 'the principal cause' of the rise of Islamic State, he said: "I think there are elements of truth in that. Of course you can't say those of us who removed Saddam in 2003 bear no responsibility for the situation in 2015."


Appearing remorseful he asks for public forgiveness for his failure to anticipate "what would happen once you removed the regime".


His dramatic admission comes 12 years after the former Prime Minister refused to apologise for the conflict. It was recently revealed that he was challenged by former Labour Home Secretary David Blunkett over the decision to go to war who warned him of the inevitable bloody aftermath.

I like part where he, as a defense of it, says we could have done less a la Libya, or less than that a la Syria, or basically nothing at all a la Arab Spring, and still have a mess like we currently do, completely overlooking what doing the "more" in Iraq cost in additional lives and resources.

No need.

Cheney (and his daughter) wrote a book clarifying that he was right about Iraq, and that everyone else who thinks otherwise is therefore mistaken.

We need to inform Tony Blair about the existence of this new book, so that he can read it and understand that Cheney has stated that Bush/Cheney were right. Once he appreciates that truth, he will certainly retract his apology.

Apologies are for liberals.

We need the Repubs to get a Hearing going on this. Blair's apology has Hillary written all over it. Cheney is symbolic of the ideology that the GOP is based upon, and for that reason alone they need to defend Cheney with the same ferocity that they went after Hillary with.

I'm sure the Repubs can somehow tie Blair's apology to Benghazi in the same way they hitched Hillary's email caboose to it. They've done a bang up job of it so far haven't they?

I'm gonna get to the bottom of this. Rush Limbaugh should know. I'm tuning him in first chance I get and I'm gonna tweet and facebook him to let him know what I think about Hillary's complicity in this faked apology by Blair. /s

I don't respect Blair any more for doing this. Maybe he'll recant on his deathbed. He certainly won't while there's an inquiry "on its way".

Christ, read up on the history of Dr David Kelly before giving this douchenozzle and his gang any slack.

I was about to move on without posting in this thread when I read your crock of shit remark and started wondering what crock of shit you were referring to and since you are more interesting than the topic itself, I have now asked.

Blair's apology for the Iraq war, it's disingenuous. At the time, he was either acting on the best information available, and made a decision that he believed to be in the the best interests of the UK, or he was a warmongering bigot that wanted to kill a bunch of people because he didn't like them.
In the first case, his actions were justified, he wanted to remove a brutal dictator from power who had used WMD on his own people, and invaded and pillaged another country. No apology necessary.
In the second case, his apology doesn't cover his real motives and is simply an empty gesture to placate the unwashed masses. Again, disingenuous.
So my guess is that he's trying to sell something, he'll be contrite and oh so sorry for his actions, he'll be forgiven, and praised for his bravery in stepping forward and taking responsibility for a war that achieved it's goals.

Of course I could be wrong, we'll know soon enough.

I get into posting in some threads myself that way.

I still blame Lee Atwater for many things these days, even teaching Karl Rove his methods.

I never even he knew he attended a Lutheran college, just a weird thing I picked up in passing today I guess.
