as many of you know, my son is a diabetic who is on an insulin pump. This weekend was his first away from home. He is at my sister's a couple hundred miles away. Everything was going well until tonite. His pump is messing up and there is nothing we can do until tomorrow. My sister wants to stick it out and deal with the problems that are going on. I trust her fully, and the pump will alert them if there are anymore problems. But I am still worried. I don't know why I am posting this, I don't expect any real help. I am just...well I am going to go take a couple of tranq's is what I am going to do.

UPDATE: Well I just dropped him off at his mom's. We hooked up his new pump and it worked like a champ. 24 hours and one sleepless night later he is good to go. Thanks everyone for your kind words.

his pump gives him a steady dose of insulin throughout the day. Without it, he will die. It seems to be working for a couple hours at a time, unless what we just did fixed it. There is much more to the story, but I am not inclined to share that much. I will happily answer any questions about diabetes or the pump though.

I really do hope your son will be OK.
I shall pray.

it always angers me when innocent children are born into this world with problems they don't deserve, and then we have idiot fvctards that are perfectly healthy messing up their bodies in one way or another.

i hope all goes well with your son

Diabetes can be tough on kids. I hope your son will be okay. Give him a big ol' thumbs up from us when he gets home for being a trooper. (depending on how old he is, the pump can be cool for him. With it, he's a cyborg)

That might be something for the emergency room. Is it one of those things that has a needle directly into the kid's leg and it has a digial readout and drips insulin through the tube/needle?

Good luck :[

I know, I was just saying that your being kind of dramatic with this statement "Without it, he will die". True, he DOES need it and its nothing to joke about, but it isnt like oxygen, he wont just suddenly fall over dead within minutes of the pump not working.
More or less just clarifying for qanyone who didnt know that.

actually he could go DKA very quickly since he has no long acting insulin in his system. His body also processes insulin faster than normal. I am not trying to be dramatic, but we are at the critical point now.

no...the pumps cost around $3k each, so having extras really isn't an option.

Was he born with diabetes? That's tough, I remember my mom and dad would never let me eat a lot of candy or sugary foods when I was little because they said I'd get diabetes. I never really think about it now whenever I eat stuff with a lot of sugar, but I couldn't imagine growing up with it.

Best of luck to your son.

thanks...I really mean it. But diabetes doesn't come from eating candy or drinking pop. Its genetic.

Don't mind him, he knows about as much about your son as he does depression.

I wish you and your family the best rudeguy.
