I hate it when this type of stuff happens. The Networkers tell the series writers and production for a series that they are canceled after all the series shows are filmed. I remember at least with Jericho they knew the series was ending for the shortened second season so there was a ending so you felt complete. I almost don't want to watch it because of this. Why should I watch the final show to have it end on a cliff hanger?
The fact that it's a cliffhanger falls on the writers, not the network. After the poor ratings on the back-half of season 1, anyone with a brain knew it wouldn't get renewed. The production staff could have written a series finale that could work as a season finale (ala SG-1 S8), but they didn't.

When your show is on the rocks, write every season as if it's your last.

So many unanswered questions. The end of an era. Been watching stargate since I was a kid. :(

That was a pretty decent season finale. I just wish it wasn't the series finale too.

I wanna know who the obelisk people were. What were those blue guys all about? Who built the drone ships?

Then there's the big questions like what was destiny actually going after? What happened to the dude who sat in the chair and the others who were zapped into memory?

Exactly.

I'm so pissed. F U SyFy! ARGH.

Was a great season ending episode, but GDI was that a shitty series finale. I have the same questions as you do. It seems like either A) the writers wrote those in to come back later in a longer story arc, or (more likely) B) they wrote them in to fill episodes with no real "plan" in place.

The neat thing about it being a season finale is they could have done a few short webisodes of Eli alone for the two weeks as he got the last stasis chamber ready. The season premiere would have been right when they all awoke in the new galaxy.

I no longer have any reason to watch syfy. I am not entertained by fish spider monsters.

When I first learned there was going to be a Stargate Universe I was pretty thrilled about it. The first show of the series wasn't too bad, I enjoyed it. But then it got rather stupid and I hoped it would get better, but it didn't. So quite watching it. Then, when I heard it was going off the air, I decided to watch the last few episodes. They weren't too bad and I actually enjoyed them.

What I don't get about the series is that there were so many times when the writers could have done something really cool, and they didn't. For example, they could have some people exploring different parts of the ship and find two stasis chambers with two Ancients in them, one man and one woman. They could bring them out of stasis and the two Ancients could help them repair the ship and they could bring weapon systems online that nobody even knew about. All kinds of stuff like that. But they never did anything like that. Instead they fumbled around in the dark and show went nowhere.

I am sure others will disagree with me about what I said, but that's OK this is America, we can disagree and still be friends. The main point I am trying to make is, there were so many really cool things that could have been done in order to make the show more exciting to watch, but for whatever reasons they never seemed to materialize until near the end when it was too late.

Oh, there's no question that there was a major amount of fail in season 1. It pretty much doomed the show from there on out. Season 2 was an improvement but even some of the later episodes were dubious - for example, that one where they spend the whole episode hunting that animal and trying to rescue TJ - bleh. The series never lived up to its potential and now it's gone. SGU reminds me a lot of TSCC, they both progressed and got canned in very similar ways. TSCC was getting better at the end too.

I don't feel as sad as I did with the end of Lost, but sad nonetheless that SGU is over.

This episode did have a Cliffhangar(ish) end, but on the other hand it also was a convincing end. It's not like some cliffhangars like SG1 or Atlantis in the middle of a battle or such. I really wish someone would pickup this show, so much potential.

The only reason I could see for the hunting animal episode was to kill off those Alliance guys except for the leader, and to have his loyalty to the crew confirmed.

Eh, I'm just gonna pretend that Eli messed something up and Destiny is gonna drift for 1000 years or so.

finally watched the last couple of eps. wow what a crappy finish, actually makes BSG look redeeming.

I'm going to guess that the setup for finding all the human bases would have been the focus for the next season but once they found they were canned they instead shifted the last episode to everyone entering stasis pods to no where for....some reason.

It was fine if they would have just left with them starting life on a new planet, we could have even forgiven them smelting down all the ships. Yet look at the world they become after many thousands of years and then look at the world we just saw developed in SGU after only 2000 years. With their starting abilities which seems more plausible to you.

Ah if only they left out that last part with the whole city then it would had been a great ending for BSG.

Any reason why they had to do that?

Not sure but their is much hatred for it. My personal thought was it was their way of preventing someone else from restarting the series or really doing anything with it post touch down.

That is impossible.

Their "new on screen guide" is composed of 10 or more year old technology, works like it was a high school programming project and is a giant step backwards. My once perfectly functioning DVR now drops sound during programs, sometimes doesnt record, stops recording in the middle of a program and is totally unreliable. Many other faults also that have been all mentioned on the Comcast forums but do you think Comcrap will do anything about it. Highly doubtful. If so much of my homeowners maintenance fee didnt already go to comcrap Id drop them in a second. Dont even get me started on their internet service.

No, since they are jumping to another galaxy and their descendants don't even have FTL, they would be left behind. Seems to me a possible layout for the show would be each season they jump to a new galaxy and run into a set of problems then move on to the next.
