I have been telling my sister and sister in law that are both fans of battlestar galacita that I have felt that they have really stretched the series and it seems like it should end this season to me. It has lost a lot of the story progress and mystery to me and just seems to barely move along. Glad to see I am not the only one that thinks so.

Executive producer Ron Moore discusses thrilling 'Galactica' cliffhanger
Rob: Why did music cause these newly-revealed Cylons to discover they were indeed Cylons. Sharon didn't hear music when she figured it out in season one.

Ron Moore: It's more that they arrived at a certain point in space and they were made aware of who they are. The music manifests a dawning awareness. These are four of the final five, which puts them in a separate category from everybody else. There are reasons for that I can't really get into. We'll be playing out those plot lines for quite a while.

R: When did you decide to make these four characters Cylons and how much did you have to go back and check to make sure that fit with things we already knew about these four characters?

RM: It was something I came up with this season as I worked toward the finale. The conceptual framework in which these guys are Cylons, it all sort of works once we laid down their individual back stories.

R: Are these four all full Cylons?

RM: Yes, but they are different fundamentally.
Also, regarding Katee Sackhoff ("Starbuck") returning next season:
R:Is Katee Sackhoff, who plays Starbuck, signed for next season?

RM: Yes.

(to bolded) No, really?? :Q I don't see how anyone could have gotten the idea that Moore has been half-assing it along all this season...

 Nice of him to finally admit it.

Haha. He's actually been very open about it in the weekly podcast he does. He also completely wiped out a New Caprica storyline that was going to figure heavily into Baltar's trial, gave Rosalyn cancer again on a spur of the moment decision, and decided at the last moment to keep Baltar's lawyer around for an extra two episodes instead of having Lee represent him.

I agree with the latter two decisions as they're far superior to the alternatives, and I'm sure that a few of those characters were always going to get outed as Cylons - Tyrol for sure, Starbuck probably, and the rest give-or-take. I know from listening along to JMS's Babylon 5 commentaries that this is a more popular way to write a show than most care to admit.

wow... the second in command of Galactica and the Presidents assistant, and the chief of maint, and the best pilot are all cylons. i gotta admint this could be interesting to see how they play it. it would be interesting how Adama will handle it when he finds out his friend for the past 20 years is a cylon.

also, at the end of this episode, there were like 4 base ships and there was a lot of time for them to have launched a attack on the fleet. we didnt see any attack by the cylons at all. so iwonder if they are waiting to get orders from the final 5......

The cast and crew work on this show like anything else as a job. They come up with new stuff each week. It's not like 4 years ago they had this all elaborately plotted out, and are now executing stories that were written in stone at that time. So yes, it can seem BS that they decide to make 4 of the humans Cylons. But as long as they sell it well, it can work. I think there's definitely some holes, but that's what makes it interesting.

Of course it can be taken too far, like the TV show Lost, where they come up with new convoluted stuff each week just to jerk people around.

I liked this episode and I liked the season overall. I think most of the people who post in these BSG threads just enjoy moaning and groaning about silly stuff. It beats me down just reading some of these senseless comments.

In D'anna Meets Final Five Cylons she must be saying "forgive me I had no idea" to Anders since she was going to kill him on Old Caprica before Six & Boomer killed her.

What about Tigh? Everybody knew Tigh on New Caprica, he was the leader of the resistance.

So I guess Ron is just going to ignore this deleted scene eh.

There was another left in scene with a younger Bill Adama and Saul Tigh that needs some explaining too.

Good question. I can't recall ever hearing that.

In which episode commentary does JMS discuss that?

Freaking morons, it's more or less in direct violation of the series canon/pretenses and they're just writing random crud to see if it sticks. I know what I'm not watching in 2008.

RIP Battlestar Galactica(2003-2006)

Humans created the cylons, how long ago in the past from the shows current events was this supposed to have occurred? A couple generations or something like a milennia?

Also it would seem these developments make Callie and the Chief's son a hybrid also.

Why wouldn't the doctors have noticed it?

Alot of plot holes to fill in I think...brain hurting....

Yeah, this is an annoying part about the whole concept of human cylons. It's implied, although never explained, that the human-like cylons are virtually identical to people. In Season 1, the president asks Baltar to find out a way to screen people to tell if they are cylons or not. That suggests that it's not as easy as poking them to see if they're full of wires. But there's also a scene where Boomer sticks wires in her arm to network with a computer, so... wtf?

As for Callie's child, it may not really be Tyrol's. That's one way they could get out of it. As far as I know though, there's no way to test for hybrids, right?

And Boomer's just that uber.

In all seriousness, the writers probably just forgot/didn't/don't care about these plot discontinuities.

Such haters the above. I think that despite the shortcomings of this season, the season finale really help wrap up all the loose ends.

I can't seem to recall, but did anyone besides Lee see Kara's ship on radar? If it was Lee only, is there a chance Kara is going to be Lee's "in-your-head" buddy, similar to the ones Baltar and Six have?

I think it's already been established that the "final five" are fundamentally different from the other cylons, so the same rules probably don't apply to them.

It looks like they implied that they have the gift of "choice"

Well, the standard for having an intricate plot put together years in advance has been set by Babylon 5, which being a poorer show in acting, effects and even plotline definitely held its own in continuity. I think we've come to expect more from BSG. That said, I was on the whole quite happy with this season and the finale.

It's been ages, though I suppose I could go through the DVDs to find it. The basic idea was that with minor and major characters always in a state of uncertainly (ie. Claudia Christian), breaking continuity and writing as you go is sometimes required.
