Was it just me or was the entire episode full of people that only knew how to mumble?

Jack referred to the guys at the Embassy as Marines when the school was being invaded (which they were looking at their uniforms) but told the kids to go with the "soldiers" when they were going through the gate. You don't call Marines soldiers.

Other than that, it's good to have 24 back. Can't wait for the upcoming season. I will say...they showed the colonel that supposedly died in the mine blast during the previews for the new season. Might have been a slip and just a flash of the Redemption show, but the dood is supposed to be dead.

I don't think Jack had time to teach the kids the difference RagingBITCH ;)

Well, I had pretty much skipped the last few seasons, and this episode pretty much took care of any itch I had for it.

same here

tonights episode was awesome... looking forward to season 7 now

Yep, lol.

Cliffs for Elganja:
I used to be a big 24 fan.
Lost interest in the last few years.
Interest rose again for the movie/event.
Interest gone again now.

I remember last year during the WS Fox ran promos for 24 with Almeda making an appearance. That season was then canceled due to the writer strike. I was wondering if they were gonna scrap that storyline altogether and start anew but judging from the promos for the season 7 premiere, i guess they're still going with that storyline of Almeda's return as the bad guy.

Mediocre, as expected.

The first two seasons of 24 were great, but the show went downhill from there. I'll still watch season 7 because it's Jack Bauer, but I fully expect it to suck.

I thought they intentionally left the colonel's status ambiguous. I mean, they made a point of having the colonel order his lackey bring what's-his-name to him, rather than the colonel move closer.

Was the UN aid worker suppose to be french? That would make 24's not-so-subtle dig at the UN even more hilarious.

I certainly agree that if you don't actually see someone die, don't assume they're dead (or in the case of Tony... if you see someone die, apparently they're not).

But I don't recall seeing the colonel in the previews and all I can find online are ones from a year ago.

I definitely recall seeing that dood...if I can find a preview I'll send it to you. And I don't think they left the colonel's status ambiguous. If you rewatched the scene, yea they ordered him closer but he didn't move, hence the colonel coming closer to him and telling him to go to hell. I've never been in a mine blast, but I'm pretty sure the kill radius would have killed the colonel from 10 feet away. :p

DVR FTW I'd never watch that with commercials. I believe that 3:40 commercial was SIX MINUTES.

BTW, are ANY OF YOU PAYING ATTENTION?. I can't believe 250 posts and nobody has mentioned this: When they are running away from the heli in the woods by the river, there is a part where Jack runs up against a tree and about four feet away from him you can CLEARLY see a camera man and next to him a guy with a large still camera. I have NEVER seen anything that awful in my life. That is bad editing. If you have a DVR, go find it, it's truly like a holy fvck I cannot believe they didn't edit that out moment. Honestly, go check it out, I've seen shadows from microphones and things in movies, but never a clear shot of the camera man taking up a good portion of the screen. FAIL.

EDIT: echoed here

And on hulu.com a comment Why has no one mentioned the camera man, left frame, at about 1:06:45? He is so far into the shot, I cannot believe that slipped by..

Best quote in this event type deal (Even though it was in the preview for the real season)!!!

I like that Tony is coming back (Dude was awesome!), wouldn't mind Michelle coming back too ;). Also wouldn't mind if they were good! Seriously, they spent their entire lives protecting this country - something would have to go very very very wrong for him to flip flop from Counter-Terrorist Agent to Terrorist Agent!

Is it just me, or did I see this season preview trailer months before? Tony being alive wasn't a surprise to me.

Crossing my fingers that I get some cable TV channels. Need to get my VCR and cables out to check....

edit: Result is I get one channel. It came in fine too. It is definitely not Fox... CBS or ABC I think (I forgot the logos). So although it not being Fox is a bummer, if it is CBS... The Unit FTMFW.

VCR? Are you trying to watch that 24 episode from 1994?
I don't have a TV. When I did have cable, I realized that VCRs have the tuner capability or whatever needed, so I plug the coax cable into it and using the composite out A/V to watch it on my computer monitor. Very convenient, requires little space and no hassle when moving.

Anyway I caught it later and it was great. JB FTW.

actually it was just about a year ago when we first saw the trailer with the big "tony is alive!" reveal. that preview also had jack telling him 'you will stay dead'. i believe they filmed the first 8 hours but stopped for the writers strike. im guessing they'll still use the first 8 hours they filmed way back when and have recently started up production again to get the rest of the season shot.
