Hello All,
I have been building Pentium computers for about 5 years now. I tried to build a AMD K-6?
A long time ago and it really stunk.
Well now I have a Iwill KK266-R and a T-Bird 1.4gig CPU, which I plan on putting together tonight.
Other cards that will go in are:
DV500+ video editing
3-Com PCI NIC
Gforce 2 Ultra 64
TB Santa Cruz
I'll be using two IBM 45.x gig drives on the onboard RAID for my video and audio data.
One IBM 45.x gig for the OS(WIN2K)
Pioneer AO3 DVD.

Questions for you all,
I plan on installing SP2, do I still need to install the 4-in-1 drivers?
Anything else I should do and or look out for?

Thanks in advance

yes you still need to install the 4in1's. i actually just installed win2k on my duron today, along with sp2. make sure and install the 4in1;s before your video card drivers, basically do them first.

I know you have experience BUT listen up !
DO NOT use a screwdriver to install the HSF clip !
Take your time and bend or dremel the clip so you can attach it with your fingers with only slight difficulty...It does not need 10 million pounds of force to stay attached !
Install it, and the ram, while the MOBO is lying flat on a table with a towel under it.

I'm not trying to be a smartass....I just hear ALLOT of horror stories on this forum because people get in a big hurry...and crack the processor or zap the MOBO...
Relax, grab a brew, and have fun ! Enjoy !

I installed a 1 ghz axia in Iwill KK266R. The hardest part was getting the fan/heatsink on the cpu. It took some effort to get it on, but thankfully I didnt crack the core. Install sp2 first, then the 4-in-1 drivers.

this is what i did for my iwill kk266-r and tbird 900.
i installed the HSF(FOP-38) with my thumbs ...OOOUUUCCHHHH! im still hurting today and i didi it saturday. DONT use a screwdriver! i fubared an abit when the clip for the fop snapped off the main tensioner(sp?) so now i just use my fingers.

i installed the HDD ad video, and one cdrom and floppy.
installed WIN2k AS installed video drivers.
installed AMD agp patch.
installed SP2
installed the VIA agp driver.
Installed the Onboard sound drivers.
installed the nic

with the defaulty win2k AS drivers, im running just as fast as if ihad installed the 4 in 1's. all i needed was the AGP driver as games would run unbearable slow. like not even boot up!! i never install 4 in 1's anymore unless im having problems.

Thanks all,
I did install the CPU, HSF, and the RAM while the mobo was out of the case. I used Artic Silver II thermal compound on the CPU to HS. The HSF I got was the 1.5gig Mwave brand, nice hs and with two fans.
So hopefully all will go smooth tonight.
Thanks

It's much easier using a screw driver. I find it easiest with a wide tip and some coordination. ;)

loosbrew,
you only installed the AGP driver from the 4-in-1?
What do you think of the onboard audio? as good as TB Santa Cruz or SB Live?
Thanks

Hello All,
Update, I got my T-Bird running last night. It was easy, I installed in this order so far:

WIN2K
SP2
All the Iwill Via drivers including the RAID drivers
Nvidia 10.x video drivers

And that is where I stand for now. Why? Because if I shutdown the computer, it will not boot back up again untill I wait about 20-30 minutes.
If I boot up and then shutdown as soon as windows stops loading then it will boot back up again.
I can restart anytime, that works ok. So it sound like a heat problem doesn't. But the hardware mon in Windows and in the BIOS read 43 degrees C for the CPU and 27 degrees for the system.
You think I have a defect board?
Man this bites big time.

Iwill KK266-R
1400MHz T-Bird

Later..

What does the bios temp say? Is there some sort of heat protection setting in the bios, perhaps it is set too low, like 40c or something.

I know I've had this problem..... I just can't remember what it was :( What do you mean it doesn't start up, do the fans even start? is the psu fan even running when it is on? stress test it and see if it dies in the middle. Do you power it on and it just spins up but the monitor doesn't power on? could be a zillion things

What I mean by not starting is that power comes on, fans working, lights working, but the led on the cd-rom just stays on. Nothing on the monitor and no beeps from the computer. I've seen this when no cpu was in, but mine is in with a great HSF and Artic silver II.
The power supply is a 400watt sparkle.
Help

The exact same thing happenend to me. I chipped the core when I put the HS on. It posted then hung. on next reboot black. The hdd was accessed each time. Check the diagnostic led on the mobo, if it has it.
