I have a tone generator and probe that I use for UTP. It has an 8P8C mod plug on one end and two aligator clips on the other end. Can I use this to trace coax? I know where the coax ends, but there are 5 other pieces of coax ending at the same location.
I'm thinking if I connect one clip to the center conductor and the other to the ground/screw part of the connector, I should be able to find the tone with the probe at the other end.
Will this work? I've only worked on UTP and the old 4 color phone cables with this tool.
