I bought a TomTom One back in May of 2008. It's been perfect but there are a bunch of reworked roads here in Orlando and even some new ones (high ways) that the device doesn't know about. I have never updated the maps before (haven't needed to). I only paid $140 for the device so I'll be paying another 60% of that cost just to update it. Yikes!

Are there any free maps out there that I can use? For the record I am NOT asking for illegal copies of TomTom maps, but asking if anyone knows of free-use maps that can be used? If I can't find something I am thinking I might just buy another GPS since they have come down in price quite a bit in the last year and a half.

New TomTom's come with a Latest Map Guarantee, which would've let you download the most recent maps for free. Those last for 30 days. Since your device is a bit older, you'll have to pay to get the maps up to date.

If you were to purchase the same model from Newegg, it would likely still come with outdated maps (because it was from early 2008) - however, it would be covered under the 30-day Latest Map Guarantee, so you would be able to get the latest version of those maps.
