I'm looking to buy a GPS unit for my car for the first time, probably around Black Friday. There are some nice-looking budget units in the $100-120 range (I've mostly been looking at the nuvi 225 and the TomTom XL 340). That's about all I want to spend right now, and I don't need anything fancy like Bluetooth or MP3 compatibility.

The nuvi 225 seems to some of the top reviews online, but I've also read that the TomTom has better features. I'm going to do some more research... any suggestions from actual users? Pros, cons?

My first GPS was the original TomTom and I loved it. It has always worked perfectly but after a bunch of years I figured it was time for a upgrade (especially since TomTom wanted $50+ for the map update). Last Black Friday I purchased the Garmin 205W over the TomTom version and have been extremely please with the Garmin.

While you can't go wrong with either a TomTOm or Garmin, you might want to play with both before you buy. It comes down to personally preference, kinda like Honda vs Toyota.

I did purchase the Garmin Lifetime Maps upgrade once I was sure that I was going to stay with the Garmin
