Tom's Hardware jumped the shark?

Is anyone following the crazy fallout over their editorial rave on the RTX cards? The guy running their German affiliate site was banned from the US forums for calling it out, heh.

This is pretty funny, too, and lays out the origin of the argument:

I'll admit I was Tom hardware patron back in the early days. Had a VIA motherboard? Never worked right

Never read toms. I'm not a fan of professional reviews in general. I prefer user forums where stuff's been field tested over time, and little bugs make their way to the surface. You don't get that with someone slapping something together, and twiddling knobs for a couple hours.

Been here since before the Great Reset of '99, young fella. Back in my day, there was even a notable feud between one of AT's original members and Tom himself. And memory came in SIMMs and I walked to work barefoot in the snow!

Which one of your books would you recommend for a first trimmer of you books - audio version. Just finished the expanse book 7 looking for something to listen to and have to wait until march 2019 for the next one.

I haven’t seen an argument so blatantly Pro Nvidia since Rollo was telling people in AT VC&G to buy the limited edition, (and massively priced for the era), GTX 7800 512MB as an “investment”.

I remember the forum lag and then they asked for subscription $$. Then it all magically disappeared few months later.

This was 2003 or something.

Man I also remember when ATOT was actually an internet mainstream forum. We would have tons of college and 20s kids here posting nonstop. If you pressed F5 at any given moment, the first page would be populated by whole new threads.

This forum was truly mainstream. If you asked any college kids in CS/IT if they knew ATOT, chances are a few were members. This was 1998 to 2005~.

I knew several in my college.

It's true. This place was hilarious, and the steady stream of fresh content kept you hanging around. I lurked throughout 2004, laughing my ass off.

Not a fan of Tom's either BUT they certainly were a LOT better when they were ... erm ... independent!

Sound like anyplace else you know? :D

EDIT: And while that video would have been vastly improved if it were roughly 1/3 as long it made many valid points.

I read that article before watching the video and dismissed it as an Nvidia promo-spiel.

Audio wise I would go with Fade, the narrator on A Place Outside The Wild seems to be hit or miss with most folks.

Watched the video earlier today, it was fun and sad at the same time because like many, i started with Toms as my go-to tech website, back in ... 2002? Then Hardforum, and finally here.

As far as i know Toms was already garbage back in .. 2011? 2010?

It might already have been a biased, promotion-spamming pile of poopoo earlier than that but i was young and naive and couldnt tell.

Yeah, I think that my dad had one of those early VIA motherboards with a first gen Athlon processor in the slot package as well. It wasn't stable unless you dialed the memory timings back to PC100 instead of the rated PC133 for the memory sticks.

My viral marketing and paid shill translator provides the following translation for all the effusive editorials and such about the RTX. "I like money, money's good."
