Quote from their "Mysteries of cdr's and backups' article...

"--The digital signature, which cannot be copied by CD recorders or mastering equipment, is embedded by the laser beam recorder at the time the CD-ROM is mastered at the replication facility. However, many drives that support RAW reading and RAW writing can backup discs that use this protection scheme.--"

I guess that puts them (or the author at least) in the category of retards who believe that all cd's in this world are burned with lasers... Where do they think cd's came from in the early 90's, when cd-r drives didnt exist? (pressed, of course) I'm just ranting cause I'm bored, but at least Anand doesnt fill our minds with such trashy loser-information...

Go ahead and beat up on Tom if you want, but who was the guy that showed how to overclock the original athlon chips? He has put out a lot of good information in his time, too. OK, I can't think of any recently, either....

All CD's are mastered with a laser. Stamping is used for mass duplication.

Anyone who has known me for awhile knows I'm not one of Tom's big fans, but I still have to ask, who's the tard?

Yep, Tom had his 15 minutes of fame. Unfortunately that fame rose to his head and he turned in to pompous and arrogant SOB.

I still a fan of tom, but feel thathis sit has gone downhill since he has stopped writing the majority of the articles. I always check to see who wrote the article when i read it on his site. The ones he writes are still pretty good.
Remember that tom was the creator of the B21 trick (if anyone remembers it) :-]

I still think you don't get it . . . the author is correct - CDs are MASTERED with a laser. You're not only bored. ;)

Talk about those living in glass houses throwing stones. :D

For those who dont know, the master is made of GLASS... and it is not a CD. The glass masters are 'cut', not burned with lasers. The glass masters are used to make stampers (metal I believe) and the actual cd's are made with the stampers. Now when did you say the laser came in the picture?:disgust:

A CD is made by using a laser to burn holes in a glass master disk.

The master is used to make a mold with bumps where the holes from the laser were.

They then pour a polycarbonate resin into this mold to make the CD.

On top of the resin a layer of reflective aluminum is deposited followed by a layer of laquer and then a label.

Just in case some of you feel the need to say 'well no mr jon, the REAL master is the cd you take to the replication plant, that is used to make the glass master..'

pre-master vs. glass master
What's the Difference between the CDR and the Glass Master?
Premastering, not mastering, is the more accurate term, since the true master for a Compact Disc is called the Glass master, which is etched on a laser cutter at the pressing plant.

Does that make sense to those of you uber-intelligent slugs who decided to flame me? No wonder you have so many posts...
