I've seen plenty of dusty computers, but dead animals and spider colonies is where I draw the line. D:

When I did helpdesk at a university one professor had local newspapers stacked floor to ceiling going back 40 years. His computer stopped working and I opened it up to see why. At leas 60% of the internal volume was filled with dust from the decaying newspaper.

I remember in my first job in a computer store taking in a computer that was infested with roaches. We opened up the side and they came pouring out of it. One many skittered off you could see all the components were covered in roach crap, moltings, and dead roaches.

We put the side back on and gave it back to the owner. No way were we going to work in that filth.

When my dad was a mover he told me that he picked up a VCR and roaches started pouring out. His customers were Indian and they yelled at him because those roaches were their relatives.

I bought a powerPC off craigslist years ago, people met me with it at the door of their apartment and by the time I was back to my car I realized it reeked of cigarette smoke. They would rest their cigarette on the side of case while typing and the inside was coated in a stink film.

I took it totally apart and cleaned it with everything I could think of and never got rid of the smell completely.

Lesson learned, NOTHING you buy on craigslist should ever come directly into your house. Quarantine in the garage for two weeks minimum.

Was doing a job at a University, one of the workstations was locking up and rebooting by itself. Apparently the owner was a crazy cat lady or somthing. Approx 90% of the interior of the case was crammed with kitty hair including the power supply. Amazing it didn't catch on fire never mind boot!

the day i found giant dead roaches (not waterbugs) that look like they grew too big too escape was literally the very last house call i did for someone that i didnt know. the owner of said computer acted as if they have never seen a roach in their life. needless to say, you could literally see roach and mouse poop all behind where the tower was.

Super dust, dander filled, nicotine crud dont even bother me anymore when peeking inside a computer.

And I thought that my server was messy, when I cleaned and refurbed it recently. The case is open (not sure where I put the sides), and there was a spider web near the bottom of the case and motherboard. There was also some dirt around the plastic snap fan housings that hold the fans (which I replaced, they were probably 5-8 years old, and a bit dirty).

I've seen one just like #1. The place where my wife worked leased the back half of the building out to a woodworking shop. The PS was completely full, you couldn't see any boards or capacitors or anything in there.

Still dont think this has ever been topped:

I remember seeing another one with a partially burnt bin and a few piss bottles o_O

Wow, how the fuck can one type on a keyboard covered in butts and ashes. My favorite is the "corn muffin" on top of the HSF, I'm not so sure the mouse one is legit though, usually no opening large enough fot them to get in and where you find mice you find mice poop, those looked like they were just put there, it's a remote possibility they consumed some poison and crawled in their to croak.

Most of those aren't even notable. If you repair PCs then you already know that carpets of dust form over heatsinks and fan grills and obvious the layers that form over everything else will increase with time and use. There was on picture of laptop keys that didn't show anything you wouldn't find on any laptop!

Now, I've seen some pretty disgusting computers. When my friend was a teenager he brought a computer to me to look at that looked like it was floating in sewage and recovered with millions of smelly black stains inside absolutely everything (fused roach turds?). It was even in the PSU. It turned out that he was using this PC when he would visit his dad out of town (never been there myself). I've never seen anything like it any any "dirty/disgusting PC" thread. Another time a family brought a PC into the shop and I popped the front panel off right there in the showroom. It fell to the ground and about 50 LARGE black cockroaches went everywhere right at their feet. I didn't say anything and kept working like it didn't happen but I'm sure I they we're red with embarrassment. Before discovering the nest we had been discussing the mess in the rest of the PC and they acted defensive like it wasn't their mess. :D

We periodically fix PC's for our customers at our office, and truthfully 50% of them look like those dust and crud-ridden pieces of crap shown in the pictures. People are just nasty.

I'm a bit OCD on cleanliness. If there's a weird smell in my house I scrub down everything until I find the source, not to mention keeping dust out of my computers (I have a vacuum attachment just for that purpose :) ). People that have PC's like that are the complete opposite of me.

You have to wonder about some of the owners' personal hygiene when their computers look like that, especially the keyboard/desk shots.

Article is dated 10/26/2014, but I swear I have seen this before somewhere. And as most of the pictures of older PCs, 10 - 15 year old models, I am sure I am not wrong.
