Has anyone ever thought that tomorrow's computers wouldn't even need a hard drive to be actually installed in the computer? The technology of hard drives are getting so advanced with large usb jump drive capacity in small size. Now, wouldn't it be reasonable if computers are just terminals and everyone carries a usb jump drive with his/her preferable OS installed? So the person can just go to any terminal, plug his jump drive in and work off from there. I wonder why hasn't Bill Gates or Steve Jobs work toward this idea. This can shrink computer size even smaller.

I think we already have this. I saw it in some magazine. It's just that most computers aren't set up to boot from USB.

Unfortunately, I don't really have a use for mine. Maybe ultra-secure VPN'ing.

a LOT of people have proposed this, the fact is, nobody actually WANTS to work this way, even if the companies would love it. They've been ttrying to sell it since the internet boom. The long and short of it: it doesn't look like it's going to catch on any time soon.
