It's actually an aluminium frame. The thickness of the downtube is like a coke can, well not really but it's damn close. :Q
I am 260lbs 😱 but the bike can take it.
The fork is full carbon and makes the ride comfortable. It's satisfying to put it together myself.

260? as my old roommate said, "i'd like a new bike, but then i looked at myself and thought it'd be so much cheaper to just be less of me"

I don't know hoe much you have to spend. The problem is that if it is too old then some new parts won't fit. Wheel sizes have changed from the 10 speed era of the late 70's and early 80's.
What model is it?

560EX

I've kept it around for 15 years because it was such a great bike. It hasn't been ridden since one of my roommates ran her car into the front wheel back in college (about 10 years ago).

I should be getting some Park tools and workstand at the end of this month. My first project is going to be stripping the trek down to the frame and building it back up piece by piece. I'll try to re-use what I can and replace what I can't. Hopefully the damage ($$) won't be too bad.

Damn you, now I have the road bike urge again.

Nice bike though. I don't have the skill to build myself (just getting back into biking after a decade of not riding), but I would love to.
