Tomorrow I have 3 hours of mandatory socializing

I never liked them either. I liked everyone I worked with, but being thrown in to an uncomfortable dinner was just uncomfortable. The field guys stayed together, as did the office guys. It was like work in a different setting :^D

I also hate most of them. I just came back from a Christmas lunch with a bunch of friends, and that was a blast, but it was done in 2 hours.

I love Xmas work parties, but then I'm a nurse.

Which means there's lots of other nurses there.

Lots of drunken nurses.

:awe:

buddy of mine just won an iPad at his holiday party. fucker.

we are giving away an iPad, a 46" tv, blu ray player, digi cam, a netbook and some other stuff. That will take 20 minutes. The other 2 1/2 hours we just stand outside and smoke.

Ours is also tomorrow, starting at 2:00 PM. I'm seriously thinking about ducking out and going home after I pick up my Christmas gift from the company and drink my two free beers. 🙂

Good point. Something like 2/3 of our company HQ is female, and there is a large population of young and hot women there. Hmmm, maybe I should stay after all. 😀

There's a difference between a "formal" Christmas party and one held at the office during business hours. A couple of companies ago, they had a formal party ever year. They'd rent a ballroom in downtown Indy and you were expected to dress up (suit and tie, minimum) to come to the party. I hate those kinds of things and didn't bother going to any of them, even after repeated harassment by the party "organizers" of the company. There was no way I was going to throw away a Saturday night hanging out with coworkers who I didn't care for; I would hang out with my friends from the company on the weekend anyway, so I saw the people I wanted to see all the time. 🙂

My current company does it right. They close down at 2:00 PM and usually have a ton of awesome food, free beer/wine, door prizes, contests, and the company gives everyone a Christmas gift. I missed last year's party because I was on business travel, but the year before, they had things like sushi, shrimp, finger sandwiches, etc. It was pretty impressive. I've heard that in the past, they also had a very formal party offsite and in the evening on the weekend, but had problems with attendance and decided to shift it in-house. It is probably cheaper too, and is a wise decision on their part.

Just realised you all probably have your parties at work don't you?

That sucks.

I always forget how the real world works. :\

Fortune50 company and all we're getting is a trip to BJ's.

Not sure why in anybody's right mind they'd make it mandatory. Just call in sick that day. Ours are always optional. I'm just low man on the totem pole and no future with them, so no point in me going.

had mine last saturday, it was a blast. got pretty toasted and enjoyed the food, then a bunch of us went out afterwards to a bar.
