gigapet

Lifer
so yeah as the title says....direct deposit coming in tommorow.

I want to buy my first gaming console since N64. I want an xbox.....

should I go with with a new one or one of the pre played ones they have in the mall?

What are some must have games? besides halo. preperably xboxlive compatible

8/2 UPDATE

Ok so I listened to the results of this poll and headed to EB at the local mall. I asked the guy that worked there what he could tell me about the pre played xbox...his response "blah blah blah, I have had mine for three years with no problems"

I purchased one along with a pre played controller,
a 12 month xbox live subscription/w headset,
hitman contracts
madden 2k4
ncaa 2k4,
mortal kombat something or other,
crimson skies high road
rainbow six 3
amped

I think it came to $359.63 for everything

I get home and the first thing I noticed....
NO GAME DISC INSIDE THE MORTAL Kombat box

I hook up the xbox and it playes a few of the games but most of them it wont play
the ocntroller they gave me was screwy and didnt work properly.

I went back the next morning and they gave me a new controller still in the package and the mortal kombat disc

That was great news for me....now the xbox is where i got a bit mad, I said I want to return this and pay the difference for a new one....they said they couldnt do that.....I was like wtf? i bought it yesterday!

He goes in the back and gets me a microsoft refurbished xbox.....apparently they sold me an EB refurbrished xbox...why the Fvck would I want a EB reurbished over a microsoft refurbished? duh! i wouldnt!

The microsoft refurbished wworks perfectly now. However there business practices are a bit shady as i think that is what i should have gotten to begin with.

My social life is now oofficially over you can find me on xbox live:

clearly you havent been around for my other polls......its always spelled the same.....and its always pointed out to me that its spelled wrong.

Because of the fact it's hard drive based, I'd buy a new one simply because it has less use on it. The more use a HD has, the less life it will in theory have.

But, if you plan to mod it at all at some point, I've heard the newer ones have less modding potential. Somebody more in the xbox haX0ring loop can confirm/deny this though.

As for games - Rallisport 2, KOTOR, NCAA'05, Tiger Wood's 2004, PGR2.

It's not that they have less modding potential - it's that the 1.6 version XBox's rendered all the chips obsolete/useless at that time. There are chips now that work with 1.6's and finally a BIOS that works with 1.6's (M8).

You are smarter than I thought! 😀

New or refurbished. Not preplayed. EB Games sometimes has factory refurbished units that Microsoft has repaired.

Yeah thats what i meant when i said pre played the ones on sale at EB.....i think they call them pre played there but yeah they are just refurbrished.

just buy it new. i fried a refurb xbox just by turning it over to check the number on the bottom. i flipped it(left the hookups plugged in, but was extremely gentle, plenty of slack in the lines), got the number, then turned it back on. snap crackle pop. wouldnt load to the dashboard first few tries, no sound, all kinds of funky vid errors. eventually the green power light would just blink orange and tell me i needed service or something to that effect. i think it was one of the first runs that had the power supply problem.

moral of the story: its worth the extra money to be sure you get a new one so you know its not one of the old ones that had the ps problem. besides, you never know what abuse the box has been through before you get it.
